This has been a concern of mine during the the Elko era. I'm not sure if he just doesn't have a good coaching network/rolodex or is hamstrung by the budget due to jimbos buyout etc. or maybe he truly believes in these guys and knows diamond in the rough.but like was said earlier, it didn't work for the baseball team, hope it does for the football team.

Elko just went 11-1 and continually cleans up in the portal. He gets the benefit of the doubt until it stops working.

Name one coach in college football that doesn't get the benefit of the doubt until it stops working?

If Elko loses three in a row to Texas and misses the playoffs. That Hot Seat will heat up real fast.

The tRev way

I hate it when the AD only produces a track natty, tennis natty, volleyball natty, CFP appearance, and improves basketball.

His only hires have been Earley (a disaster) and Bucky (looking solid).

The OP insinuated that Wiggins is going to be a failure.
Perhaps all the internet psychics on here should just give the guy a shot before passing judgment.
You really don't know how good Wiggins will be or not.
You're just throwing crap out there to a frustrated fan base pissed off at how the season ended and blaming everyone from Elko to Klein to Reed to anyone else.
You openly second-guess a Head Coach who in only his 2nd season went 11-1 and got A&M to their first-ever CFP.
I get it people...you're pissed because we lost to t.u. and Miami to end the season
And you're stuck with that frustration for another year.
Had even 1 of those 2 games turned out differently you wouldn't see nearly all the whining on here.
And you wouldn't have everyone already trying to second-guess Elko at every imaginable turn.
Give Wiggins his turn. He's earned at least that chance.

Promoting your #2 guy to #1 should NOT be a massive change unless your program wasn't very well run.

Here's what I don't understand. If you know Wiggins is the guy, then why let Klein hang around for the playoff game? Unless Wiggins plan is to completely change the offense (which I doubt, since it's his first OC gig), then just let him take over and get rid of Klein. He obviously had different priorities by then

Fortune favors the bold. We knew Klein was distracted and it's not like he called a good game against t.u. Hell Saban changed QBs in the middle of their national championship game. Playing it safe rarely changes the world.

Sadly it won't unless you are willing to pay off the big raise we gave him that he had not earned yet.

I don't care how much I respect somebody - if any of my team tells me they accepted an offer with a competitor and wants to stick around to finish a project they are working on, I am telling them no and I think that's the same for every other organized corporation in America.

The Collin Klein Rule for college coaching should be that no coordinator will be allowed to stick around after getting another job. 3 points is unacceptable - Elko's personnel management is to blame. Wiggins doesn't look good in any of this.

Now do Ole Miss.

Coaching ain't computer programming. You dorks need to stay out of coaching and quit talking about it like you have a clue.

History says promoting a coach and hiring a new guy workout the same in the end: Aggie disappointment, obscurity and mediocrity.

Better to save mental energy and disposable income for things that you have control over. Tangible pursuits are worth it. Aggie football is distraction at best, something that might reward you with some brain chemicals for a few moments.

No one really knows anything about how the 2 new coordinators will perform. Just have to hope

We will find out 7-8 months and it'll confirm or break elko

There's a very large disconnect from people who want to be in the playoffs and win a championship and people who only care about 1 game each year.

We assume Wiggins is less experienced then Klein, but he has alot more seat time as a coach and has been around some pretty great staff. Saban also trusted him enough to promote him to assistant HC. I'm assuming we'll see alot more 50/50 split between running and passing judging his background and the offenses he's been a part of. Klien seemed to put Reed in some pretty bad 0 or hero situations. Klien was also pretty average as an oc when we hired him.

There is a good chance Wiggins has avoided becoming a play caller to maintain stability as far as his career goes. The OC is always the dumbest coach on staff as far as public perception goes and generally the 1st to be let go when "something has to change."

Giving Elko the benefit of the doubt which I normally don't do, maybe he realizes that he made a mistake letting Klein stay as OC and that Klein's distraction cost us two games.

There's a difference between relying on hope for some future that's being promised and having had a phenomenal 2-year start, being ahead of schedule, having already made the playoffs, and having a history of hitting gold in the portal.

You knew that, but you just had to butt in. Now butt out. Because Elko is your coach, Reed is your QB, and next year is going to make most of you look just as dumb as this year did.

If Wiggins was ready to take over, that would not have been a massive change. So now he gets to learn on the job this year since he was obviously not ready to take over for a coach that had one and a half feet out the door. Klein's mind was elsewhere.

There's two parts to being ready
The challenge and the maturity to do the job
&
The nuts and bolts of calling plays running practices etcetera
The second part of the job is the one that he needs to learn how to do at spring practice and OOC games next year

And using hind sight how well did that common sense solution work out? Especially seeing that piss poor performance by the OC during the tu game.

I think Wiggins will be fine. Success will depend largely on execution by our QB. I'm hoping our offense operates with more tempo. Reed seemed to perform better when not having to think a lot.

The assignment that concerns me the most - out of the 4 in-house promotions/assignments - is Wiggins. To my knowledge, his name never surfaced as a potential OC at any lower level schools in the past.
