C/o '71 here. This song is always played during the yell practice after a loss, but that is NOT the only time it is/can be played. It's a great tune, and the lyrics meaningful and appropriate for any occasion.

It's a misconception that it is (to be) only played after a loss.

We only lost 2 games this season. Maybe you missed it. We used to sing it after every loss in my day.

The tune sounds great, especially when it is sped up a little like when a pep band plays it. I think it would be a great filler at football games before kickoff or during timeouts.

Life is full of setbacks/failures. This song reminds (some of) us not to assume a "loser" mentality after a loss. We would all do well to take the words to heart.
