Man, still seems like an arrogant dude...excuse was that loss was on him he stated on poor play calls in situations and that they beat themselves as they thought they would win the game.

No props to A&M, but maybe indirectly on where Elko outsmarted him on maybe 1 or 2 plays, but really due to his his poor play calling or approving certain calls.

Not expecting him to give all props to A&M, but still...anyways, onward and upward.

What's he supposed to do, throw his freshman qb under the bus? He is trying to keep his team engaged, vs if he said he had no shot those guys are just way better than my guys.... Drink is a good coach imo

Just curious. How do you think TA would react if our HC stood up at his press conference and said, "yeah they kicked our @ss, they're just a lot better than us. We hung with them for a while but we're just not on their level."

The coaches you hear say things like that coach at directional schools. I would expect that from Samford's HC, for example. Any SEC coach, after a conference loss, is going to say the same type stuff…"we could've won if we did X or didn't do Y". It's typical coach speak and there's nothing to see here IMO

He sounded just fine to me. He was trying to take ownership of the loss as opposed to many trash coaches like Brian Kelly and others that like to blame their players. He was owning the loss. That's how you show your players leadership and not lose locker rooms.

Off topic: Why didn't Mizzu get charged a timeout when #11 went down in the 4th qtr at about the 5 min mark?

Sounded like a good coach and leader of a program. And also maybe a guy who's hoping to secure a few extra bucks in order to stay with an extension.

You mean like last year when Elko said texas "physically annihilated us" in his presser after the game?

He put all the blame on himself to shield his players, not to diminish us. He could have said it's hard to beat a top 5 team with your 3rd string QB who is starting his first game as a freshman and missing other key guys.

His comment about expecting to when was referencing prior to the game. That's the confidence you want your team to have. Should they expect to lose?

The question at the 3:15 mark didn't seem indirect to me. He was asked what Elko did on defense to give them problems and he responded, "how much time do you have?" Then he described what Elko called on defense, how they tried to counter it, how Elko switched up. Sounded like a chess game that he was losing. He ended his response with "They got us".

I agree it's good for a coach to "give props" to the team that beat them, but you would probably complain that it didn't sound sincere. He's the Mizzou coach, of course he's going to concentrate on what they did or didn't do.

He also talked about how no matter what they did, Elko had an answer.

Stop going out of your way to be offended.

Had they already set the ball at that point? I think that's only when that rule applies.

It happens occasionally. That was the end of the season, and IMO Elko was delivering a message to the team and also that the roster needed to be improved. 1st season HC vs a guy who's been at Mizzou for a number of years. Mizzou also probably feels like they have something to play for this season, we clearly didn't at that point.

But congrats on your "gotcha", I know how much you love doing that sh*t

The center had his hand on the ball when the refs blew the whistle.

This has got to be a joke... Coach is trying to be humble and essentially said his team lost because of him, not his players (obviously not totally the case)... And you take it as him being cocky?

My takeaway from the post game was that Mizzou believed they would win, they gave top end effort and played well and we still won the game in their stadium….convincingly.

Go watch his press conference from earlier in the week. He was very complementary of us and said he was the first one on the Reed bandwagon. Does not seem arrogant at all in either press conference

Exactly. He gave Elko all sorts of credit for out scheming him in the post game press conference. Did not say a&m got lucky or blame refs.. What more does op want?

I found it interesting that Drinkwitz whined about officiating after the 1st quarter claiming they had 4 flags (actually 3) to A&M's 0. Then we end up with 8 for 65 yards to Missouri's 4 for 38 yards, so (8-1) the rest of the game.

Absolutely loved the exchange after the question about how Elko beat their protections.

<Long pause after question>…"how much time do you have?"…<launches into expert highly detailed breakdown about exactly how Elko cooked him.>

I think Drinkwitz is one of the better coaches in the conference if not the country . They are always physical and they tackle well. He also seems very approachable and handles the press well.

He had a point with regard to the way the game was officiated early in the game. It evened out and then some for the remainder of the game and the refs having alligator arms on obvious holds was frustrating. When your defenders are trying to move one way and there's a stretched out arm in The other direction on the end of the closest Mizzou player it's holding 99.9% of the time.

I listened to the Missouri Athletic Network for the game. One commentator was praising Elko for showing mercy on the last drive and not scoring 40+ on Mizzou. The other one seemed a little salty and stated as talented as Elko is, he was surprised he didn't end up somewhere better.

That's the kind of game that makes you wonder if you can win a championship at the place you're currently at.
He's been smelling his own farts for 3/4 of the season and buying the hype that they were actually good and that he was the prime candidate for a bunch of bigtime jobs. He's thinking, "Why would I leave Mizzou? We are building a monster here." Then A&M comes in and makes them look like an "also ran". The guy was shook. He was thinking about how he should go about quietly checking on the LSU, Florida, PSU, Auburn, etc. hiring processes.

I just went back and watched it. You can hear the referee say in the background "...by rule that is a loss of timeout...". Hard to hear because the two announcers are jabbering on and not paying attention at all. I keep watching and I never see the TV graphic remove one of Missouri's timeouts.

So I think it was called on the field, but because by the time we scored our td with 2+ minutes left and then MU muffed the following kick off...no one updated anything on tv.

Edit - I just went to espn.com box score of the game and you can see there that Missouri did get charged the timeout.

ESPN/ABC muffed the timeout. Not surprising.

He should be the girls volleyball coach.

Coaches that do not acknowledge the other team are losers. Elko hasn't had to this season but when we do lose he says the other team played well and did what they needed to do to win. then goes into detail on our failings, what we didn't do, or were unable to do and why, etc. and even then will give credit saying "we tried to do X but they had a good plan / did a good job to defend / attack that".

Brian Kelly postgame you would have thought lsu really should have won or easily could have won our game but for their mistakes, not one acknowledgment of the better team that just kicked their ass up and down the field.

5:31:30 mark (I didn't hear him say, "unless he was waiting for the right one" yesterday, so in hindsight there probably wasn't any malicious intent).
