Patton commanded the 5th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Clark in the late 1930's. They were specifically left at Fort Clark during WWI to counter the threat of Mexican incursions into Texas. They were still chasing Mexican bandits and smugglers even in the 1930's when my Grandfather was in B Troop.

The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles even covered this where George Patton gets into a shoot out with Mexican Bandits, luckily young Indy escapes the ensuing chaos.

The last commander of Fort Clark before WWII was Gen. Wainright, who got "promoted" to the job in the Phillippines, where he would be captured by the Japanese.

In the summer of 1966, my family took a train trip from Los Mochis (across from Presidio) to Chihuahua, then across the Sierra Madre mountains to Los Mochis, with the ultimate destination being Topolobampo for a fishing trip. With the layover in Chihuahua, we hired a guide who took us to see the primary sights of the city. The one that really stood out to 12-year-old Froppe was the visit to Pancho Villa's home. Part of it was a museum, with the car in which he was assassinated, among many artifacts, etc. Pancho's widow was still living, and told many stories, although I had to utilize my junior high Spanish to try to understand her. Overall, a big thrill for an impressionable little kid, especially seeing that car with all the bullet holes in it. And, Mrs. Villa was very nice.
