Anyone keep their key fobs in a faraday cage, or similar? Just came across this video and had no idea thieves can walk to your front door, and steal the signal from your key fob and steal your car so easily.

Yes, there have been several threads about relay attacks on the auto board over the past few years. I saw it happen to my across the street neighbor (brand new F-250) a couple years ago. I put my keys each night in a tall steel tumbler upstairs that acts as a faraday cage. Consensus best alternative solutions are a Ravelco, IGLA or TrackHawk.

Drive a POS Hooptie.

Benefit : Nobody wants to steal it, and your car payments are fantastic.

Wife parks in the garage. My old truck still uses a physical key. Outdoor lights, multiple cameras, and two loud ass dogs.

Good luck.....

Heard that the 3/4t thefts are almost always cartel related. Might be hearsay, might be true. Lots of videos surfacing from Mexico about armored-up diesel trucks used by the cartels to patrol. They weld metal all over them. Makeshift armored vehicles.

All my cars are insured, they can have them if they want them that bad.

I'm not that attached to my vehicles, but I do prefer to keep them in my possession.

Howdy, gotta say I do the RFID thing but did not do it cuz of theft. Have a brand new 2026 RAM 1500 Hurricane. Found out the hard way, two dead batteries, that the RAM fob talks to the car all night and runs battery down. Solution was to buy RFID pouch to put key fob in at night, so now I find I am also prevent theft, pretty good result of the 'unintended consequences' concept.

When we picked up a new truck last fall we immediately put a faraday pouch on the keychains.

The key fobs have enough range that someone driving down the street can sniff your key fob sitting in the house.

The other thing the thieves do is pop the hood on a truck, swap out the ECU module with their own, then their key works on the truck.

I have Igla on my truck, I may not be able to start the truck with the ECU swapped, but they're not starting it either.

I see a lot of talk about thieves using these rfid extenders.....

I don't doubt they are but seems the most common way they're stealing cars these days is to cut the horn, break in, then do the ECU swap or some other method to get it started then are on their way. At least that's how 90% of the Silverado, Tahoe, Yukon, etc. thefts seem to go down right now.

I pray every night someone steals my wife's chrysler. I put the fob as close as possible to it.

My truck and brother in law both got broken into in Corpus this way. Woke up and all the doors were left open I assume because they did not want to make noise from shutting them. My brother had a gun stolen out of his and oddly enough the only thing I had in mine was a pair of running shoes which were taken. The consoles and glove box were tossed, and you could tell they been under the seats, but oddly enough they did not think to check my glasses holder so my $300 Maui Jim's were still there. The running shoe thing still makes me scratch my head though

There are some lesser desirable places in Houston outside the loop and south of Richmond that sell all sort of clothes in parking lots on weekends.

Most look stolen.

My wife refuses to believe that the reason I have to replace her keyfob battery every two months is because she leaves it in the car.

This...Plus, every house in our neighborhood in Cypress has ring cams (pretty sure they came with them). People can laugh, but I truly believe this is a huge deterrent. I capture half of my driveway, but several of my neighbors caputure the whole thing.

Then there's the fact that it's all but a given that almost everyone has at least one firearm in their house on my street.

I took a girl on a date in the Heights back around 2006. When we came out, we realized my back window of my F-150 had been shattered. They got away with a board game, dirty gym shorts that were on the ground and one of my two sandals. I had TWO pistols in the car (one in door and one in console) that were untouched...all of my other valuyables still there as well. I couldn't believe it...but that was when I really learned that you do not leave ANYTHING showing in Houston, even if you think you're in a fancy place with secure parking (especially post Katrina). I eventually got a gun stolen from a locked console in my truck. Dammit I hate thieves.

Kind of wish they'd steal my truck at this point tho.

Have you considered not leaving firearms in your truck?

I'm considering installing a kill switch. Put way to much money into the engine to have it stolen.
