I recall hearing in 2008 during the bailouts it was closer to 50% of every new GM car and truck went to pensions

Sounds interesting but as a man 6'3" and 225lbs…it's sucks driving these little trucks for any extended period of time, unless it's on a ranch doing work or up on some off road trails fishing / hunting.

A Tacoma with 125,000 miles at $22k fits this bill good enough already (the prior gen).

Although I am interested to see what this vehicle looks like.

This will come in far more expensive than they're saying. Far more.

Truth is, manufacturers make far more in software fees and residuals and car loans than they do selling the cars themselves.

This yoko's dream of selling you a "technology free dumbed down truck with a super crap interior for 20k+ less" is just a huge dream.

And good lord, why would I want that?

Why would we want a simple truck that we can work on ourselves and has an interior you don't feel bad sweating in but is still replaceable and doesn't have a multitude of technological luxuries that replicate a cell phone that are known to fail and render the vehicle useless and cost lots of money to fix? Why would we want that?

Probably because we actually like trucks and not luxury suites with beds attached.

2 pages and nobody told me anything about this. I'm in.

I would prefer a very analog pickup. I don't need a computer to interface between myself and the window. A simple circuit with a switch, a relay and a window motor will suffice. The same thing for an electric radiator fan. A thermostatic switch, a relay, and a fan motor will work. No need for a controller and software to complicate what should be basic electrical circuit troubleshooting. If i want the air conditioner or heated seats to turn on, I don't want to dig through the giant touch screen to find a page to do so. Give me a physical button somewhere in plan sight that I can locate and push in less than a second to make it happen. Somewhere in the last 10 years or so we have decided to choose the most complicated solution to performing the most simple tasks.

You know what's better than that? Cooled seats, which this truck almost certainly won't have

Ventilated seats are a line in the sand option for me now

At this price you could go aftermarket ventilated (cooled would be harder) with no qualms. Plus they are going for easily modifiable so I'm am sure there will be ways to do just this. This will probably spawn its own unique parts/upgrades market/culture if they achieve their stated goals

We will see, I think you posted the same about Rivian and Lucid.

Many end up not materializing - but some do.

True. But Lucid suffered a net 1 billion dollar loss q1 and Rivian just laid off staff to try to stay afloat and turn a profit.

I partially blame engineers that, outside of body style changes spend their days justifying their continued employment.

It's an incredibly tough industry, can fill books with the failed attempts to get a foot in the door.

But vaporware has a specific definition. Both Lucid and Rivian have sold a sizable number of vehicles, real products. Who knows what the future holds, they could fold. But AMC and Eagle are failed motor vehicle companies, not vaporware.

For this company listed here, need to look at the names involved and backing capital (I know nothing about either in this case).

I've never heard of Lucid. I've never seen a Rivian.

I have basically no hope for this brand. My only hope is that one of the established brands takes note of the growing interest of the basic/affordable LT concept and Obama's cafe standards are reduced enough to make it appealing to Ford/Chevy/Ram.

Where do you live? If you live in a decent city, you have seen a Rivian. They built the EV Amazon delivery trucks

Sounds like they are going to make the truck Toyota won't sell in the US anymore. The market segment exists, the big manufacturers just can't turn a profit on the vehicles it takes to serve it.
