Having an early dinner in EADO and want to take the kids to see Christmas lights. Grew up going to prestonwood but that's pretty far from downtown so was thinking about river oaks to see some lights. Is it going to be an absolute madhouse around 630 tonight?

Maybe do West U instead? They do some good displays.

It shouldnt be too bad. Woodland Heights is another option.

Tanglewood is a good show and traffic isn't terrible.

I know my wife would enjoy river oaks but I'm not sure I want to deal with what I assume is going to be absolute insanity, although I guess if my car is doing all the driving on its own it doesn't really matter all that much.

Timbergrove south of 11th is nothing on the scale of RO, but no traffic jam.

Another vote for Tanglewood here.

Shepherd Park plaza is always good

We'll probably not going anymore. Car rerouted me because 10 is an absolute nightmare and some real ******* state trooper was blocking a random public road. I asked him how long it would be closed and he got getting pissed off and said "you want to drive through someone's neighborhood?". I mean yea, I do. It's a public road, not private, so that's exactly what I want to do and the entire point of it existing. It's not even a neighborhood, just some random back road off of 10.

So now we are stuck in insane traffic and it probably added about an hour plus to the commute, so probably just turning around and going home.

This is my favorite street when I've done the Eureka Heights Lights in the Heights beer & bike ride.

Pecan grove has better lights anyways

My mom grew up in Brazoria county, but I'm not familiar with some of those areas in Harris and more adjacent.

Im not sure anything tops 80s/early 90s Prestonwood. Seemed like 95% participation, every street with a theme. Went back five years ago and it was a shell of its former self. Maybe 30% participation.

That's a real bummer. It was a highlight of my youth going on hayrides through there every year.
