I honestly would have thought the requirements would be a little, well, higher.

I recommend you follow Matt Bramanti on twitter who spends what seems like every waking hour taking down chronicle reporters and their God awful attempts at doing a heckin journalism. It's incredible how bad the entire staff is at doing anything that even approaches reporting.

I left the Chronicle just over 10 years ago. I looked at the staff directory today and could count the names I recognized on one hand. And the Chronicle was a "destination" paper where staff would spend 10-20 years at. They probably don't have enough seasoned staff for proper reporting anymore.

I second that. I believe Bramanti's day job is as some sort of accountant, and he brings that thorough level of focus to dragging Chronicle reporters who cannot master subject-verb agreement or tasks harder than copy and pasting from press releases.

When I was a freshman at A&M I bumped into a HS friend that had gone to Texas and one of his new sip buddies. I was an engineering student like my HS friend, his new pal was a journalism major.

I remember being told that there wasn't anything left for engineers to do so it was a useless major but the world still needed Journalists. Just a throwaway conversation from a long time ago but it has always stuck with me. Especially everytime I read or watch the news.

We get our information filtered through idiots.

It's been a hobby of his for a long time. He messed around on local blogs before twitter was a thing.
