If YTT and Disney don't reach a deal this week, where is a good place to watch the Missouri game on the near westside of Houston?

Woody's Hideaway at I-10 and Kirkwood...went there one night to check it out as it is down the street from my cousin's place. It was almost all male with a heavy frat vibe, and even a golf simulator, but we were commenting on what a great spot it would be to catch saturday games.

Howdy Club hosts watch parties at Moonshine Deck.

They're pretty lively, packed with Aggies, and its more of a mixed crowd than the sausagefest that takes place at most sports bars. It's a lot of young professionals, but even olds like me are not out of place too badly.

Howdy Club is mostly under 30, right? Or are the original members still partying? A buddy who works at Moonshine told me I'd stick out like sore thumb....for some reason.

Also beware of Saturday traffic down 19th and 20th streets if you're not used to it. May want to uber or use one of the pay lots.

Howdy Club is mostly young professionals, but there is a good mix of people at the watch parties. I went to the one for the Utah State game. I'm class of '94 (an old), and while I was outnumbered by the young 'uns, there were enough other olds there that I wasn't too badly out of place and didn't feel like I stuck out too badly. But I also don't really worry about sticking out, so maybe I did but didn't notice.

I used to think along these lines but at 44 I no longer give a damn what younger people think about me or my presence, anywhere. I pay my taxes and have rights dammit.

I have no qualms about creeping on younger eye candy. Crowded loud places do however have a different affect on my sensibilities than they used to.

*also realized I still had my shockingly gray fluffy beard last year when my buddy told me that.

Just saw there is a brand new one off the 610 loop between Shepherd and Ella near the old Thomas BBQ. Struck me as an interesting location the other day.

I've been to the last couple watch parties at Moonshine Deck.

I agree - it's mostly 25-32 year olds but there's plenty of older Ags who show up to watch the games as well.

What is interesting about it? A ton of people live within 1-2 miles of it. Its a great, easy to get to location.

I don't know, guess I'm used to clusters of bars in the neighborhoods of Heights/Oak Forest...not one-off bars right off 610 near Lowe's and Office Depot like that. Not criticising them or saying it's not going to work out, looks like they are doing very well actually, it just caught me off guard as someone who lived in that area for the beter part of a decade.

It's nice to see.

Likely the largest lot of contiguous land they could find. Cle owns most of the northside of 20th at this point and most of the land on 19th and 20th with buildings on it is stupid expensive now.

The Kirby's is just like all of the other ones, but the bathrooms are stupid far if you're sitting out by the big screen. It was relatively packed on Sunday for the Texans' game.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out in the long term. It's just kind of a weird area/ambiance for a popular bar imo, but we will see. Pulling for them.

It's a nice change of pace as the crowd is usually older 20s and up. Seeing as it's not a "trendy" bar like those on 20th, it may have some staying power as a neighborhood joint that isn't full of 20-somethings every R, F, & S.

You, me, bar, beers, buzzed. Wings, shots, drunk. Waitresses, hot. Football A&M/Mizzou. Slaughter. Then a quick nap at my place and we hit the tiz-own.

I don't disagree with all points made, but talking to Russ, they viewed this play as a geographic capture between Heights/Timbergrove and Oak Forest/Garden Oaks etc. Not looking to capture the bar hoppers along 20th/19th. People go to Kirby for Kirby not because of location. If you can make parking not a total biatch, you go for long bar where you can always walk up and get a drink (not 2 deep like its a college bar ie 20th stretch), and never a line for the bathroom with quick service and a boatload of TVs.

I heard parking was key for this location and that parking garage was a big reason it was chosen.

Was at the Office Depot behind it last week and they had signs saying parking was for Office Depot and Kirby Ice House.

Was surprised to see that but I'm guessing there's some nights they need every spot they can get.

McIntyres is also a good location in case Moonshine Deck next door is too crowded. They most likely will have the sound on as well. I was too nervous to go watch the LSU game in public (and mainly because I didn't want to be around a bunch of coonasses), but had some friends who went to the new Kirby off of 610 and said it was slammed.

I also find it odd that a bar that has had immense success building huge locations near freeways where lots of yuppies live/work would build another huge location off a freeway where tons of yuppies live/work.

It's not rocket science to coast off the creative synergy that Tom's BBQ created. Between that and Hugry Farmer, you'd have to want to screw it up.

To me there is a difference between "tucked away 1/4 mile - 1/2 mile from the freeway" and "right on the feeder road of a freeway". But everyone's point stands, this place will kill it. The owners are no fools.

I also agree with the pt that people go to Kirby's for Kirby's the bar...not to bounce around.

Would be funny if this place starts drawing more of a Buffalo Fred's (RIP - Buddy and I walked out of that bar to a driveby once) type of vibe though. Although I think the area has gentrified most of those folks out over the yrs.
