I know there are a few other airshow/airplane nerds on this forum. WOH just announced that the only two B-29 Superfortresses that are still flying will BOTH be at the show this year. FIfI hasn't appeared in I think over 10 years. Doc was there a couple of years ago. I don't think both of them have ever been at the show at the same time.

Doc also typically offers rides in the days prior to the show.

Tickets for the show should go on sale later next month.

Sweet! I think my daughter would really enjoy it so we are going to check it out this year.

I think we might take our little boy for the first time this year. Is there any difference between Saturday and Sunday shows? Any other keys to know for taking a 3-year old?

Somewhat related, I was just looking at the Commemorative Air Force museum site. I'm determined to make it out for one of their hangar days this Summer:

*and they are free and open to the public

They are the same. Only potential difference is weather, but you have to buy tickets for a specific day.

I highly recommend spending the money to get the chairs/upfront viewing. I've done it both ways, and the chairs are the way to go.

I tried the "Family Chalet" tent with my 5 year old a few years back. Food was edible, definitely appreciated the shade and unlimited water. Cons were many tables under the chalet were poached by families the entire time, making a shade break a crowded, sit on the ground affair.

Keep in mind access to the warbird flightline is only available in the morning until flight ops start. Off limits after that. Coupled with star performers not flying until mid-afternoon, it makes for a really long day if you want to see it all.

Sunscreen, earmuffs, hydration, a battery fan, and a wagon or stroller are all very helpful.

At 3, you might just get GA tickets and arrive at gate opening. Walk the warbird flightline, get pics with the cool planes, buy a souvenir, and hit the road before lunchtime. Or maybe tailgate a picnic lunch to watch some of the flights before you bug out.

Sunday is usually less crowded which is a win.

Bring a wagon for the kid and to carry your chairs. Also bottled water and food can be brought in as the lines are long for both.

You will have a blast!

Tickets for insiders went on sale yesterday.

I was able to snag a few of prime view seats for $60/each, but 20 min later the price was up to $80. They do use dynamic pricing. That price also seems higher than in past years (I believe we've been paying $70, as close as a few weeks out).

Also had a snafu with the seating map. It was labeled wrong and the runway position was opposite where it should have been. So instead of buying tickets right on the flight line, i wound up with tickets on one of the back rows. Only realized it because I went back later to buy more tickets and the map looked different.

I emailed them what happened, suggested some alternate seats, and within an hour and a half, I had new seat assignments closer to the flight line. Great customer service!

Is this still worth it with the government shutdown? Are the Blue Angels the only ones not showing up?

It was supposed to be the Thunderbirds. I'm disappointed, but am still exited to go simply to see Doc and FiFi. The rest of the show is great, too.

Also, since the Tbirds aren't flying, we get free gen admin tickets to the show next year.

Did anyone go today? How were the crowds? Planning to go tomorrow and curious how it was with the shutdown.

I went; crowds were (or seemed to be) smaller than usual, which I think was primarily due to the lack of a headliner and the other modern military jets. Traffic getting out was much less than normal. Definitely not as many static aircraft this year due to the shutdown. Seeing Doc & Fifi together in formation was pretty cool. Also had 2 of only 4 flying A-26s, and United had a 777 flight demo which was…interesting.

I enjoyed it but I'm a huge dork for that type of thing.

And take sunscreen & a hat.

Crowd was extremely light today. Prime view was maybe 1/2 full, and a most people left after Tora, Tora, Tora.

Leaving the parking lot was a breeze!

The Tbirds were definitely missed, but the B-29s were a once in a lifetime opportunity. Def glad we still went.
