I run by that memorial every day and had no idea until this week. When I read about it I was sick to my stomach.

You mean like when 42 boys went missing in the Heights over a couple years in the 70's, and the police dismissed them all as runaways?
Ah the glory days of old Houston.

I don't know. Were they spawn of Katrina refugees from Houston visiting Louisiana? Or from Louisiana and going to hide out with Katrina friends/ relatives?
Years ago the news sources would occasionally mention the Katrina refugee- crime correlation. A generation or two later, it's never mentioned on the news. But don't think there's not a correlation. A large population of very violent, criminal gang members were relocated to Houston.

since this directed at me, I'll respond.
1. I don't think you were even alive during this period, or if you were, you were maybe in diapers. My sense of the city was as a teenager who lived here then. So, maybe you can learn something from people who were here and lived it.
2. Using an anecdotal fallacy doesn't win an argument.
3. In defense of the police (and believe me I'm not 100% in their corner all the time). If you have no body and no evidence of a crime then what are the police to do? We didn't have cameras in every intersection, or cell phones that tracked your movement back then. Also, the incidence of kids "running away from how" was much higher in the 70's than it is now - I knew of a lot of kids who ran away from home for at least a few days. The logical conclusion for the police was indeed that they had run away. It would be highly illogical to suggest one of the worst mass murderers in history was on the loose with zero evidence. The kids disappeared from The Heights, Spring Branch, West U, Pasadena. etc over three to four years. Most of those areas were low to middle class at best areas income areas that probably had their share of runaways.
Now back to tracking the current culture rot taking over the city.

The investigation revealed that HHA purchased a former church property in Houston's Fifth Ward for $11.4 million - nearly $5 million more than what the previous owner paid just two and a half years earlier.
Chris Senegal, a developer who markets himself as "Mr. Buy the Block," initially purchased the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church property, known locally as "The Dome Church," for $6.7 million in December 2020.

Holmes is accused of helping Johnathan Saizon, who was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
Saizon, 38, faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault of a family member.
Authorities allege that on Oct. 8, he went to his ex-girlfriend's home, forced her into his vehicle, and assaulted her over several hours, including with a tire iron, before releasing her at a hospital. She sustained serious injuries that required medical attention.
