There are huge piles of snow/ice in the nearby Sam's parking lot. No telling when that will fully melt.

Still piles at the HEB in prosper. It's really starting to dwindle in the neighborhood.

Pretty close to being gone around my house.

Saw quite a bit around a shaded house this morning in Fairview on an inspection. Small amount left on North and East sides of the afternoon inspection in Prosper.

Finally got all the ice cleared off the north side of the house with the help of salt pellets, with the possible side benefit of killing the little 2' strip of grass that I hate. Although I'm not that lucky.

3" on the rain gauge. Lovely.

And just like that, all the bushes and trees and stuff are starting to push new growth.

Spring is amazing.

Crazy how much green we already have. I'm tempted to go ahead and plant my spring garden but I'm sure the second I do we catch a March hard freeze.

Is it too late for pre emergent? Figured I had until mid February but I already see weeds popping up.

You are not too late for pre-emergent in DFW area. I would shoot for this coming weekend or last weekend in February at latest, but typically the "too-late" zone is after 1st week of March.

Weeds you see today would require pre emergent months ago (hence the name "pre"…. "Pre" /norm)

As my grandma would say, raised on a farm in north Texas and grew cotton and corn most their life, don't ever plant until after Easter.

We've had arctic snowstorms in March.

Snow on Easter within the past generation. Seeing 4 inches of fluffy snow on Easter sitting on our pool lounge chairs as a late teen/early 20 person (can't remember how long ago) was comical

Most of the weeds you see now are leafy ones. Just spray with a 2.4-D weed killer. If the grassy stuff is bothering you, pull it.

Neil Sperry says 2-3 weeks before last killing freeze.

If we make it through this week without a freeze then it is likely that we are done. Not guaranteed but a very good chance that winter is over

I never count out a late Feb freeze but it does seem like a pretty mild winter overall with just a single actual winter event that barely lasted a week. So wouldn't be surprised if you are right.

Wunderground showing west of Fort Worth area down to 29 Sunday a.m. Could be outlying areas only. Also a pretty quick freeze - maybe 2 hours max.

Keep in mind that official temperature is taken 5 feet off the ground. When it's clear and calm, the temp at ground level just before dawn can be several degrees cooler.
