I just let them drip on the ground. Also since the guts are brass and the attach to metal sometimes the warmth from your home effects the element, so if it's 32* outside and they aren't dripping wait till it drops a few more degrees and they'll start running.

I have also used the knockoff "BlanKade Freeze Protector" which can be bought on Amazon for 1/2 the price. They both work, the Freeze Miser you can get at Home Depot and Lowes, the knock offs have to be ordered.

I seem to lose one or two every year so I always buy more.

I put one I used last year on a faucet a few weeks ago when we had a cool front and turned on the water as usual. No issue until a week or so later it popped off and started shooting a river of water into the dirt! I wish the part that screwed onto the faucet was made of something tougher than plastic.

The overwhelming majority of people have enough food/supplies in their home currently to last 2 days...even if the power was to go out for several hours.

Seriously this is a literally at most a 2 day event ..not a week long storm.

and at this point it looks like some cold rain is about all were gonna get anyway. If it is wet enough then possible late evening/overnight Saturday there may be some slight, slight road issues.

Nothing wrong with preparing buy nobody does panic buying quite like CS

Mom and hubs went to HEB TP before lunch and it was packed.

I went to HEB on Texas during lunch and it was packed. But they were stocked.

Quick question on the Freeze Miser: do you attach it directly to the faucet, or to a hose to divert a possible accumulation of ice.

I heard one of the owners of Freeze Miser a couple days ago on talk radio in Houston. He stated that you could put the freeze miser on up to 150 feet of garden hose and the hose would not freeze up.

Just left HEB Towerpoint and when I pulled in I thought..."what is going on...it's 1pm?" Looked like the day before Thanksgiving in there.

(Blue star emoji is the closest to a snowflake)

tldw -

Per the Euro model (the most accurate lately for these type of weather events), Northern Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee...are going to have a bad ice event. Probably going to be some people out of power for awhile in those areas. The eastern seaboard is predicted to have the biggest snowstorm in a decade.

Here at home it's going to be cold and wet and Saturday night into Sunday morning .... some frozen something will fall, probably wintery mix more so than snow. Precipitation is moving out Sunday, but it's going to be cold cold cold and we will have to see how slippery it is on Sunday - that's probably when we'll start hearing about cancellations, depending on road conditions.

I went to Costco to get my dog's meds and it was ridiculous. Long lines with people with carts full of toilet paper and water. I wanted to ask them how long are you planning on being shut in?

During the covid mental midget TP hoarding exercise, I was in the Bryan Target and a lady comes up behind us in line with 2 baskets of frozen food. Processed frozen food. Pizza, microwavable snacks, chicken nuggets etc.

I say to her "you know most of that food is at least a year old before it's shipped to stores right? There is zero chance of us running out of Totinos"

She freaks and starts cursing at me in front of my 9yo "I AM A MOTHER. I HAVE CHILDREN TO FEED, I CAN'T RUN OUT OF FOOD!!!!!!" and she called me an MFer lol

What I learned with COVID stockpiling was just how many people I know who only buy 4 rolls of TP at a time. Not folks with limited space in apartments, grown ass adults with families.

I was talking to the lady at the Hallmark store. She asked if I had been to Kroger. I said no but told her about my Costco experience. She blamed the hording mentality on COVID.

I've witnessed this behavior many times pre-Covid, esp during what parts of hurricanes we come close to getting (yeah I know, we got most of Beryl)

I wonder if Sunday and Monday AM are full or just not subjecting employees to having to be there/carry groceries across the parking lot.

I just wanted enough to not have to run my normal Saturday errands to Readfield and Farm Patch.

I text the wife and kids yesterday and said what snacks do you want. Picked those up last night.

Plan on making some steaks, some queso and maybe a lasagna. Not all at the same time.

Debating on moving my smoker to the front side of the house out of the wind though.

Usually go to the store twice a week for groceries on Sunday and Thursday. Well today was Thursday and Kroger in Bryan was ridiculous. No milk, meat was very low and the place was packed. Luckily no one wanted chili meat obviously and I wanted chili. It's only TWO DAYS!!!!

My big decision now is what to pick from the garden vs cover. Thinking the cabbages and all the root veggies will be fine.

Tomato plants, weirdly still pumping them out from the spring are in grow bags and they're going in the garage for a long time. The avocado tree which just flowered and has tiny fruit on it is coming inside for a little vacay

I probably have enough toilet paper to last two or three months, I bought two of the big packages last week when I was at Costco cause it was like six dollars off. And I know we use it so but it had nothing to do with the storm lol.

The only thing I didn't buy today I'm kind of regretting is wine. But I am trying to cut back, but potentially not being able to leave the house for a couple days might necessitate that.

I didn't really buy much groceries. I will cost steal bites and potatoes tomorrow.

I picked up my usual weekly grocery haul today at noon at Jones Crossing curbside. The kid loading my groceries said they were restocking like crazy but they had almost every thing I ordered. He said he heard TowerPoint got a lot more traffic than Jones Crossing because they are more of a "college kid" store.

How could Tower Point be more of a college kid store when Jones has eleventy-hundred student rentals in a two-mile radius?

Old Soviet joke I was told during a trip when that country still existed: "In America, the stores are always full but people's pantries are always empty. In the Soviet Union, it's exactly the opposite."

Can confirm that that latter part was very true.

Jones crossing has much more college kid traffic than tower point.

This information is for sane, non hoarders only:

Despite the morons in front of me spending $300 on meat on a Thursday night at almost 9pm, the Kroger on Boonville is decently stocked. They had a good amount of produce (although I couldn't find bananas) and a good amount of meat as well. Shelves definitely not full but I didn't notice anything glaring out. Had milk, eggs, TP, bottled water, etc

Good reporting. Thanks for the info. Until we have HEB in east Bryan Kroger is the go-to for last minute grocery runs.

We stay up on everything, food-wise for adults, but with a toddler a milk crisis can happen.

I am realizing I wish I had more firewood. With the mild winter so far this year, and last year, we're pretty low. We don't make many fires so as long as the power stays on we're solid.

This might be less than helpful, but I saw firewood at either Home Depot this morning, or Kroger just now…just don't remember which one. But I'm leaning toward Kroger

i know of a good chunk of firewood but youd have to go to almost robertson county to get it. and youd have to clear a bunch of yaupon to get to it.
