There has been an osprey working the upper Peach Creek drainage the past couple of weeks, sighted between Capstone and the Wellborn post office. I asked a falconry licensed friend if it might be off the Brazos but he thought the river was too muddy for a sight-hunting bird. Maybe Gibbons but the closest I have ever seen one was lake Conroe. Thought it was of interest.

Back in March I watched one catching fish in a five acre pond in Robertson County. A Caracara would swoop on and harass it every time it caught something and it would drop it back in the water. Finally got one and headed out and for some reason dropped in about 100 feet from the water as it flew away. It was about a 12 inch bass. I assume it was just migrating through.

BCS is becoming more raptor diverse; I saw a caracara beat the crap out of some vultures over roadkill in front of my house last year. Cool and vaguely scary looking birds.

Ospreys are an indicator species…means things are good when they show up (unless you're a fish).

I read 3/4 of this before I finally figured out we were talking about the bird not the crash prone aircraft
