It's possible that they don't come in until tomorrow.

I don't see why they would come today.

With the fighters, they land and go eat and the next day they land and make an appearance at the game.

My understanding is that CLL can land a large aircraft but maybe not have enough runway for it to takeoff.

There's plenty of a room for a C-17 to land and take off from CLL. There was one from the guard here for a day or so in the spring.

Also what they've landed here in the past for presidential motorcade vehicles.

The USAF states the C17 can operate on fields as small as 3500 feet (other sources say even lower with reduced payloads). Easterwood's runway is 7000 feet.

On a serious note, why does everyone think the C-17 is the Holy Grail of flyovers? They aren't that cool just flying in a slow straight line. The first time I saw one do a whole demo of capabilities I was definitely blown away, but that's what I want to see. Straight line stuff is best for fighters and formations.

I'm not sure that anyone but Trouble has the C17 set as the Holy Grail. But it was fairly unique and is big.

I love fighter jets as well. Honestly, I love aircraft.

They are less plentiful than fighters … but yes. I agree. A flyover performing a combat descent into Easterwood with thrust reversers deployed in flight (it's crazy stuff ) would be way better.

Heck, I flew the thing yesterday and I know anything with an afterburner (especially if it's got 4) is a way cooler flyover. We made sure to not execute at our max speed (250 below 10k ft) so that we could go max over the field, but it's nothing compared to burners. We're pretty limited on what we can do on flyovers. For a heavy to do a turn over a crowd takes a 2 star general to sign off on it.

The Air Force has the South Carolina game next. Right now the plan is for 2x F-15s and 2x F-35s from Mountain Home. Not sure what the Army and Navy have planned for the other games.

BTW, the loadmasters was on the ramp with one of those Texas flags with a aTm logo instead of star. We've had quite a few people say they liked the 12th Man towel out the back.

I'm a little late to the party as it seems C-17's are now considered lame but… I took this on 35mm film, developed and scanned it today.

Canon AE1 on a 200mm telephoto lens/ Kodak Gold 200.

Well, there were 2 little boys in the South endzone absolutely losing their minds screaming and waving at y'all.

It's not often they get to see the same kind of plane their brother flies so they were pretty excited to tell everyone around about it.

Also, I think it's pretty freaking cool to see y'all take a sharp turn in that big damn bird.

As a child of a father who flew on a C-130, I loved having a big plane fly low and slow over my house. Reminds me of my childhood living on an Air Force base.

That was my thought exactly. B-17, P-51, etc would be amazing!

As cool as it would be, the problem with a WarBird flyover is we would have to pony up the money to fund the flyover. CAF, Collins Foundation, American Airpower Heritage Foundation, etc are all non profit and have to fund their flying, restorations, and maintenance through donations and sales and keeping these beautiful and historic aircraft in the air is expensive. Current Military aircraft are on crew training hours that they would fly anyway, they just come here and practice, Time on Target, Precision Formation Flying and other required skills. Not saying it couldn't happen, just pointing out the logistical requirements. Maybe if they added a buck to every ticket sold or something like that.
