Everything you need is on the main road and within the first 3-4 blocks.
El Disco Superstore is on the west side of the street, first block after crossing, and has tons of stuff - everything from liquor to guayaberas, ceramic wear to drugs and dresses. It can almost be overwhelming, but it's a great place to start. Pick up a frozen rita at their walk-up bar and shop with beverage in hand.
There's a knock-off purse store a couple of blocks down on the west side of the street which your wife and girls will love. I don't know the name but it sells reproduction and clone versions of designer handbags. If your wife or girls are looking for a handbag, the clones are basically the same as the real thing, 99% of people would only know the difference if you told them. They tend to run about 35-50% of the cost of the real thing. Reproductions are cheaper still.
Galerias is on the east side of the street in the 3rd block and is decent shopping. Canada Store is another familiar shop that sells all the souvenirs but is further south and I think has suffered some from distance to the bridge. I think its on either the third or fourth block, west side. There is an open air bazaar on the east side of the street, think its on the second block, and it has some neat stores and tons of souvenir options.
I'm an Arturo's fan for food and drink (been going there for 50 years) so that's always my recommendation. Get the original margarita there. On your way back toward the bridge, there is a nice jewelry store on the same side of the street as Arturo's and maybe a half a block north towards the bridge.
There are plenty of other shops and restaurants all on the main street and within the first 4 blocks. Enjoy the day trip!

People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.
