Hoping to catch Bender's eyes on this post but know there are many others on here with similar experience.

Looking for another suppressor for my MP5 clone - specifically one for maximum sound reduction and ideally full auto rated.

Currently running an Omega 9k which is great on pistols but not getting the suppression I think I could get out of something a little bigger/longer and I am not really familiar with 9mm cans.
I love the tri-lug adapter mount but that's not a must have, just a really big plus on a new one.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Budget:

JK but since this is the OB, no sense in putting a budget because I'll get everything lol

Normally I would not recommend something I haven't myself used, but I would suggest looking at the Sub9 from Rugged Suppressors. It is designed for full-auto PCC/sub-gun use. Comes with a 3-lug mount, unlike a lot of other 9mm suppressors. You can find reviews for this can on youtube.

My shooting buddy just purchased one, so I hope to try it out within the next week or two. If that happens, I will try to come back here and type my thoughts about it. Also, I can say that a Rugged Obsidian 9 in full configuration will be less noisy than your K-length suppressor, but it won't look nearly as cool on your firearm as would a Sub9. I have used an Obsidian 9 to good effect on our HK SP5.

The YHM R9 would also be worth looking into, since it also is designed for your type of purposes, and it will definitely be cheaper than the Sub9. I think however that it does not come w/a tri-lug mount. I haven't used one of these either, but they do seem to garner reviews that are quite complimentary.

This is great stuff! I guess I shouldn't be surprised how thorough of a response you would give based on your bino recs! Regarding the trilug adapter - as long as the suppressor has that option, i am good with it. I looked at a B&T a few months ago and am pretty sure they don't make a mount for it…

Thanks again!

I use the Otter Creek Lithium 9 on my HK SP5. Love the look and sound and the price really sells it. You can use a tri lug with it but I direct thread. Also works great with my FRT. This is the only shot I have at the moment.

For what its worth. My ears are really bad so I chose my suppressors based on sound suppression, longevity and serviceability....I never let price be a determining factor.....protecting my ears as much as possible is my priority.
I have used and owned the 7.5" Wolfman, the GSL Phoenix and most recently a CAT MOB A1 in 7.74" QD.
I sold the Wolfman (Just did not like it) and still have the Phoenix and MOB. The MOB is definitely the quietest of all I have tried......to my ears. I do like the GSL Phoenix because it is serviceable. I also had an older AAC TI-Rant and liked it as well.

I actually went with a really cheap Bersa Whispertech as its cheap, easily serviceable, and running it tucker under hand guard on an AR-9 being direct thread only wasn't an issue.

Was actually surprised at how well it works. Throwing 147s in giggle mode makes you want to put on ear pro from the steel target impacts.

Lots of good options out there right now.

If you haven't, checked out https://pewscience.com/ and his podcast The Jay Situation to do more suppressor learning than your brain can handle. Besides putting out really good info, he's an Aggie, so extra bonus.

I haven't shot every can he has tested, but I have used enough of them that the sound suppression rating he's developed comes in handy a lot and lines up with my own personal experiences on which cans are "quieter" than others.

I'm going to link the rankings table of every suppressor he's put on his SP5 and SP5K (the one labeled PDW on the chart):

The Cat Mob is the king of the hill right now. Its a really, really good suppressor. If you want the best, just buy it and go on with life.

The RS9 is a weird can, it likes higher pressure and is actually quieter on the shorter MP5K than the full size gun, which is opposite of how basically every other can behaves on the MP5.

He has also tested a lot of guns using a H&K P30L handgun, and that chart is below:

I included it so you can see where your Omega9K stacks up on a handgun compared to other tested suppressors, and also so you can see how differently something like the RS9 that has been tested on all three behaves depending on the host gun even with the same ammo.

If thats all super confusing, listen to some of his podcasts, read his write ups...it seems overwhelming, but the more you read and listen the more sense it will make.

I also thought this was a fun tool yall might not be aware of: cancontrast.com will let you compare suppressor sizes, which can be super useful.

From top to bottom:
Your Omega 9k
Rugged Obsidian 9
Cat Mob
PTR Vent 2
Resilient RS9
CGS Mod9X
OCL Lithium
Dead Air Wolfman

I thought the size comparison might be helpful.

For me personally, my PTR Vent 2 has been phenomenal. I have it basically dedicated to my Faux SD, which is a Turk made AP5 with a 5" K barrel under the shroud that I have direct threaded my vent 2 on. I could put a 3 lug mount on there to shorten it up just a smidge. With 147gr, the sound of the action is more noticeable and annoying than the gunshot. Its insane.

The only other pistol cans I've really used much on my MP5s are a Rugged Obsidian 45 and a CGS Mod9SK.

The Obsidian is nice in long configuration, less nice in short. The Mod9SK beats no can and is super small which is nice sometimes, but by far the least effective at noise reduction of the three.

Like I said, in your shoes I would buy a Cat Mod or Vent 2. They're way better than everything else right now if sound reduction is your #1 priority. Both can be used with 3lug, direct mount, most stuff.

But, if you want the option for a smaller form factor, something like the modular CGS Mod9X looks interesting, since you can make it almost as small as your Omega9k, or as long as the other options. Likely wont be as quiet as the other two, but will still be good and gives you more flexibility.

Hope that helped, let me know if you have any questions or want to shoot anything of mine!

More MP5 porn just because:

I even tried the Mod9sk on the FauxSD. Does it look cool? Hell yeah. Is it quiet? No.

Nothing wrong with the Lithium you have, its a great can too. And Otter Creek is a good company.

Thank you! I've got a lot of good information on this thread and will be pursuing a new can here shortly.

The Mojave 9 gets good reviews for PCC use from what I've seen. No experience at all with it, just what I have read here and there.

But the Vent one that Bender has is as good as anything you'll find IMO. At some point you can't reduce sound anymore.

Also make sure you have the correct locking piece for your MP5 - 90 degree or under, though from what I gather a lot of guns won't run with FRT on an 80 degree piece but will with a 90 degree piece.

I already picked up the FRT and it's pretty ridiculous….

Practical application: 0
Fun: 100

On my list of wants, but other things always seem to chew up the money first.

Getting ready to join this suppressor game. Question about the hk sp5 with the suppressor- do y'all always shoot the subsonic ammo? We have an embarrassing amount of 9mm on hand but no subsonic.

I see Roger's has federal 147gr full metal jacket flat point subs on sale. Which grain/ ammo type would be preferred for targets/ plinking with the sp5 and a new cat suppressor? I've been putting this off way too long.

I hardly ever shoot subs. It's pretty fun but supers are so cheap and ear plugs are light.

I always shoot subs on my PCCs. I still use ear pro but I like to keep it as quiet as possible. My ears aren't getting any younger…

For suppressors, I have the Cat Mob on the MP5 and a Onsidian 9 on my Noveske Space Invader. I've been very pleased with both.

Supers arent a problem, just louder with a supersonic crack. You dont have to shoot subsonic ammo.

I shoot a lot of blaser brass 147 flat nose fmj through my guns and it feeds fine.

My clone wouldn't feed flat points. I wouldn't buy in bulk without testing a box first.

Same here on the quiet as possible due to old ears. As I said in my post I too have been very happy with the CAT MOB. Of the ones I have tried and shot on a MP5 clone it is definitely the most perceived quietest to my ears.

I have had the Wolfman for a long time. It is a good one and I use it with 300blk as well.

The tech has surpassed the Wolfman since then. I would go with the PTR or CAT, assuming they can shoot calibers other than pistol rounds to make them more versatile.

I have the spectre 9 and the hybrid 46. I think the hybrid 46 looks the best and is the quietest on the hk sp5 of these two. The spectre 9 does a pretty good job for its size and weight and would be almost perfect for a sp5k to keep things super light and small. I think the spectre is a better dedicated pistol can but did pretty well. It just doesn't seem right to attach a supressor to an hk with anything other than a tri lug.

Factory SD are direct thread.

I get what you are saying though, it's just part of "the look" that the MP5 holds in our hearts.

The Hk sp5 comes with a tri lug and the 1/2-28 direct thread in front of that. So direct thread on the Hk looks a little funny with the tri lug still showing plus like you mention nostalgia.

Correct. I think the trilug mount is a more flush fit and looks better. It is also just really cool
