Concerning the metal detector in the house…
As someone who knows alittle about this, the detector is going to sound off every square foot of a modern house.
Yes, my Equinox 900 is a sophisticated machine and can discriminate between metals but a couch, for example has a large amount of metal in it and you would need to "target eliminate" almost every VDI except what the ring would show. An Aggie ring comes up right at 87-88 so that would not be too difficult.
Wedding rings can range from 12-55 on the VDI because of size and karat. So that would make it much more difficult to isolate. I have hit wedding bands at a solid 55 in the river and engagement rings at 12-14 in a backyard…
Despite what people first think, there is a learning curve to metal detecting for goodies and not just scrap and HOI. (Hunk of iron)
So a detector from Wal-Mart or beginner Amazon detector would probably just frustrate you.
As a side note, I have a lady in north San Antonio who contacted me to detect in her closet for a Rolex she believes is there. So it is not unheard of.
