I just want to publicly thank Gunny 456 for helping me find a deer lease. I've read Gunny's stuff for years and am always impressed with his knowledge of deer management and boats (even though boating is not my thing).
So I'm following the thread a couple weeks ago where Giddings was looking for a hill country deer lease. I'm thinking how lucky I am that I'm on a good lease in Menard County and plan to stay there a long time. Well we find out last Monday that our lease will not be renewed. Sounds like they are getting more money from an outfit that will sell guided hunts. Dang.
So I reach out to Gunny to see if Giddings took the lease he said was a possibility. Turns out it was not a good fit for Giddings but it is a perfect fit for me and four other guys to hunt with our kids.
I have always been grateful to be an Aggie. It's the best thing there is to be. But now I'm even more thankful that I discovered the OB a couple years ago. I've learned so much - and now I see how great a community it is to make meaningful real-world connections.
I had never met Gunny before. But all it took was a PM, a phone call and a few texts and he went out of his way to get me in touch with some old neighbors of his in Kimble County. I visited their place this past Saturday and not only is the place perfect for hunting, the owner couple are one of the most delightful couples I have ever met. I think we will get along great for many years and make lots of great memories there.
