Going to fish the white bass run for the first time this weekend on Sabine River near Marshall. I have read that any mouths of tributaries are good spots but what are the target areas in the main river? Do they layup in current breaks and eddies like most river fish ? Not sure if they are spawning quite yet particularly with the big cold front we just had.

Caught a limit in 20 minutes under the 99 bridge at choke last weekend.......just kidding its probably bone dry. Im heading over to water my trees tomorrow and will go take a look at it. last i looked it was 8.8% full

Interested to hear what it looks like. I'm guessing dry, too.

Shallow spots in running tributaries into the main river if there's such a thing right now as running tributaries . I have found white roadrunners and h&h spinnerbaits to be effective.

also Super Dupers by Luhr Jenson are white bass killers

These are great for stocker trout. Never tried them for WB.

Got plenty of roadrunners , jig heads/ grubs and small spinner baits. Fired up for tomorrow morning.

i like to troll the slower water with chartreuse grubs and 1/8 oz jig head but i prefer to go up as far as i can on any river and find some gravel and fish on the edges of the eddies where the water is swirling. i prefer 1/16 oz jig heads for that. if i have minnows i will just use the jig without a grub and hook the minnow thru the lips and fish reel it in slow along the bottom.

Unfortunately the good old days of fishing Choke Canyon are done. I don't think we will ever see it full again.

Just need something like Hurricane (depression) Charley to sit over Del Rio for 3 days again.

I bet that would put a bunch of water in it.

Probably would help Amistad and Falcon but I don't think that would help Choke Canyon.

Choke would be on the "wet" side, so should receive quite a bit of water if it happened.

I know the Frio and Sabinal got a bunch when Charley came through in I believe '97.

I'd take it. Used to be a wonderful place to fish. Unfortunately between drought and Corpus Christi water issues it has just continually dropped.

The great flaws of Choke and Mathis are their diminutive drainages. And drought. And increased pumping of groundwater in the upper stretches of the Frio and Nueces.
