The name alone deserves an OB post. If you haven't seen it, you should.

Our settler ancestors would have stayed close to the old homestead tonight.

I'm duck hunting and not deer hunting this weekend because of it. Although the ducks are probably migrating all night or feeding all night so not much better there either.

Moon doesn't effect deer movement, as per, deer studies from MSU.

At least that's what I heard on MeatEater.

I don't really care what he has to say. I can track real data in real time via cell cams. The deer don't stop moving but they damn sure seem to feed all night when it's full moon.

Normally when I can walk to blind without a headlamp AND I am casting a shadow, I know the hunt will turn off very quickly after sunrise and usually not pickup again until evening, usually after sunset.

Since we're having hot/warm weather, I doubt any deer are really moving on Friday and Saturday in the middle of the day too…

I stay close to the homestead now. Have you been in public after dark?

Damnit it's bright out there! And magnified in the fog. Woke up thinking it was getting daylight.

Speaking of Beavers.. I hunted one last night at dusk that has been working trees around my pond. I think the last couple nights, he has been doing his work under moon. I killed one about this time last year and have had no activity until last month or so. My pond feeds neighbors low lying swamp, and I figure they are damming up the out flow from there, as swamp and my pond both are rising. Dont know if these are young ones kicked out or what.
Friend , who has trapped many set a kill trap with scent where there was activity, but no luck, they or it has not returned to that portion of pond. We dont want to put out leg traps, as we have dogs, foxes and some deer that water from pond. Outside of being patient with trap and hunting at dusk and dawn, yall have any advice?

Tannerite at dam + shooting practice?

Sounds like you need a new thermal scope as well.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Slept in a hammock in the backyard last night just so I could soak up its light.

I tried my beaver call after the kids went to bed… no dice. I'll try again tomorrow.

If you bat .300 for your career, you're a hall of famer. I'm just trying to bat .300

Seriously. The finger ring trap I put on mine has been highly ineffective. I was way more successful before.

If they are common in the area you will not get rid of them by trapping or killing unless you eradicate the species. Much like predators and varmints, if you kill them, others just move in to replace them. Beavers and their dams have been on the earth for decades and served a purpose on waterways in the wild.
They are common on streams and such here in the Ozarks and we are not going to be able to kill them off. Our local biologist said to just keep destroying their dam construction and they will eventually move on to another area.
We wrapped the bottom 3-4' of the larger trees we wanted to protect with standard hardware mesh wire and it stopped them from chewing on them.
They actually did us a favor getting rid of lots of nuisance small saplings along a section of our creek and saved me a lot of chainsaw time. I will say that their one little dam they built actually made me a nice small mouth hole, but it got washed in a flood in the spring. We haven't seen the beavers since.

That was an interesting interview. Basically said nothing increases deer movement other than the sun going up and the sun going down. Not even cold fronts.

Ya, I said that a little tongue in cheek, the research says they don't increase the total distance moved per day.

And that on average they are still moving most during the early am and late pm time frames.

Steve and the host guys really latched onto "the moon doesn't affect anything". But if 51% of the deer continuing a fairly normal routine makes the research solid… but if 35% of the deer do change their habits then both the research and the statement ''moon phase can affect deer movement and feeding' can both be correct statements.
