Caladan,

I have the Swarovski el range 10x42. All the green has come off and the range button has almost melted away. Any suggestions? The glass in them is still great.

I'm not Caladan but always heard great things about US Swarovski service center. Doesn't seem to me like you have anything to lose by calling them up and asking to send it in.

I have had them for 7-8 years. They stay in my hunting back in garage. However, they have been around the world literally and have many of hours and associated with a many of kills. Every year they kept getting worse and worse from the oils and sunscreen on my hands

Hey!

Definitely send them back to Swarovski. As already mentioned, their CS is fantastic. Obviously I can't say what they will do for you, but I would bet dollars to donuts that they will treat you right.

AFAIK, there is no other place to get something like this fixed.

If I decided to update them would you recommend me going with same ones or do they have something better on the market now?

I don't keep up with RF binos, so I can't say if a Leica is any better or worse than a Swarovski. But I do know that I would not sweat the decision in the least, at least between those two. If I ever needed an RF bino, I would just get the best deal I could find.

Did you keep the binoculars in a hot car for a few years?

I'd send them in and see what happens. There has to be something they can do. May cost you a few bucks, but those are nice binos so it'd probably be worth it.

The new excitement in RF binos are the Revic BL10 Gen 2 and the Sig Kilo Gen 2. They apparently approach alpha glass but have a better laser and display.

That said, knowing you are already accustomed to Swaro glass, I wouldn't step down in optical quality. I've used the Sig Kilo Gen 2s and they aren't alpha glass. Poor edge clarity and DOF. I haven't used the Revics.

The two I've compared and would recommend to you (coming from previous gen Swaro) are:
Leica Geovid Pro or Swarovski EL TA in whichever size you prefer (likely another 10x42).

I'm a Swarovski guy but ultimately chose the Leica Geovid Pro due to ergonomics. I own a pair of 10x42s and 8x32s. I'm currently testing the 8x32 for archery. The 10x42s are great for rifle but seemed too clumsy while bowhunting. Both displays and lasers are plenty adequate for hunting (IMO). I'm not a competition shooter.

If you decide to go Leica, you may want to wait. Leica is currently updating their rangefinders to incorporate a customizable OLED HUD. Currently it's only available in their CRF Max. It's only a matter of time before this new display is incorporated in the Geovid line-up, at which point it will be very difficult to beat.
