I passed on this deer last year. What a difference a year makes. I think he's probably still young but deer rarely age in our area. Neighbors are of the mindset if it's brown it's down. Only 400-500 yards from the property line.

What's your estimate of age? Score? Not much mass but he's a cool looking deer. Gun to my head I'd say 4. But could be 3.

Biggest jump in antler size/progression in Texas is 3.5 to 4.5 so I'd lean 4.5 but he looks younger. Early ish in the season though. Hard to score but would guess 140 +\-5

I agree with this. Another indicator of age is the burrs on the base of the antlers and antler mass. Most of the time if a deer still doesn't have alot of mass or some rough burrs, he is still not mature. Not always, it is another good indicator. If this buck can survive for another season or two, he has the potential to be something really special.
Also, bad hunting neighbors are the worst. Feed the crap out of your side of the fence and hopefully he doesn't roam too far.

That's my thinking. Unless I see a mature buck in the area, I might try for him with my bow. Neighbor was vocally pissed I shot the 10 point he was after last year. He hasn't been very friendly since we have been there. If he was nicer I would let him have it.

Why was he pissed - he'd been feeding him for years waiting till it was mature?

Or he just thinks he owns all the deer in the neighborhood.

Both of your benefits otherwise this question will happen every year and you won't have anything greater than a 4.5 yr old - but maybe the area pressure dictates that.

He lives on his grandparents land and thinks he owns the area. Not really a rational thinker. The other side of the property is mostly cattle ranches and creek bottoms. There is more chance for mature deer on that side. Most of the properties around him are ranches and not full time residences.

Most of the doe hang out on this high side . So we get some traveling bucks during the rut. Majority of the bucks seem to head to the creeks when they mature. Rare there is one like this out in the open. I think he's just comfortable because I feed year round.
