I "teal" hunted Friday.

Didn't see any teal at all south of the ICW on Xmas/Bastrop. Not unusual. After last season on the prairie I wonder if any good number of ducks are going to come to Texas this year.

Couldn't justify the cost of a lease this year with our group kill numbers going from 340+ birds killed in the 23-24 season to 98 birds in the 24-25 season.

If I'm reading the DU survey results correctly, it appears most duck numbers are down again this year compared to the long-term average. Combine that with the continued removal of land from ag production (especially rice) and the Texas coastal areas seem to be down.

Last year was down for us hunting around Winnie and this year teal season was a bust. Numbers way down.

I shot a banded BWT on teal opener on public. Finished with 14 birds for the morning.

If you want to support waterfowl conservation with an organization that has the duck hunter in mind, support your local Delta Waterfowl Chapter. If you want to know how where your money goes and how it is spent when you support an organization, support you local Delta Waterfowl. Up to 25% of the money raised at a chapter banquet stays local. Those funds are part of the Waterfowl Heritage Fund and are spent at the discretion of the chapter following specific guidelines. We have chapters all across Texas as well as all of North America. If there is not a chapter in your area, it's easy to get on started.

The Aggieland chapter gets to keep 25% of the money they raise?

What do y'all spend the money on?

Hoping this front finally pushed down a bunch of teal and maybe some ducks too. I heard teal numbers had been building but won't know more until tomorrow.

I'll be out on the opener after an evening of trick or treating with the kids. Good luck everyone!

Ill be fishing on the coast saturday am, haven't seen anything but mottled ducks around the past couple weeks south of the ICW.

My wetlands at Somerville are empty. I saw a pair of woodys in the roost pond a few weeks back and that's been it. Normally I'd have consistent small flocks of bluewings and groups of woodys, but nothing. I've been out messing with deer stuff on a regular basis and havent heard the normal waves of sandhills either.

If the forecast holds, hoping to go snapper fishing Saturday.

This front pushed a ton of birds in to our area. Been seeing a bunch of ducks on every pond and cranes in the air.

Word I heard is a bunch of Blue Wings were stacked on ponds near the coast. I am honestly hoping some of the whistlers are still hanging around. Nothing wrong with eating an acorn eater

Smashed a 3 man limit in about 40 mins this morning. All but 2 were BWT (pintail and smiling mallard). Birds are not in mid coast but loaded close to coast. Saw thousands of pintails

Me and my Vietnam vet friend went to our duck lease up by the Hagerman preserve yesterday for veterans weekend. We saw about 20 Canada geese about 800 yards away but they wouldn't come to calls. We saw zero ducks. It was still nice to get out and enjoy the nice weather and spend some time with him.

Some decent shooting around us NW of Blessing... but based on the comparison between Saturday and Sunday, sounds like they shot all of the "resident" birds off of the place.

Nothing going on our 100 acres of rice, but they haven't made second cut yet, so we don't have any real open water. Teal season was a total bust as well.

Did see one group of specklebellies flying around though, that was interesting.

I heard and saw a decent amount of Speckle-bellies. More between Markham and El Campo than where I was Sunday SW of Blessing.

You still with Thunderbird?

We tried to get on the waiting list with La Bahia and it's so full that there's a waiting list to get on the waiting list.

Yes sir. Surprised La Bahia has that many people waiting to get on but between THC, Blessing, and Bahia, there really isn't much for other clubs in the area.

All of our birds were down closer to the coast and a ton of BWT. Sounds like an overabundance of whistlers (Black Bellied and Fulvous) too.

We've got a place down at Cape Caranchua - at this point we're tempted to try to go hunt public if we've got enough water to launch the boat. Just not seeing anything early season up where we're hunting now.

Fished instead of duck hunted Saturday, two groups on either side of the bay shot twice all morning.

Saw 18-24 redheads and that was it. Honestly surprised to see that many this early.

1-4 ducks was the average hunt on the old duck club. Another buddy had 6 guided groups of hunters on their properties and shot 11 ducks between them all.

Hunted near Freeport yesterday and bagged a single GWT. Should have bagged a few more but was more focused on letting my 10 year old take the shots. I think we saw 2 flocks of big ducks (spoonies), everything else was teal.

Hunted this weekend near El Campo and it was very slow. Killed 11 on Saturday and just 3 on Sunday. All teal except 1 gadwall. The entire area seemed slow and we didn't even see or hear that many birds prior to shooting time. There did seem to be more pintails than usual for an opening weekend, but they were sky high and on their way to other places.

I guided a 4 - man group with plenty of BWT Saturday am in Matagorda. Groups that got em were scattered. We were in the lucky crowd!

2 man this morning in a hurry on North east TX public. 10 teal, 1 gad, 1 Hollywood hen.

All in all a great hunt.

There were a few young sheriffs out there that apparently thought they were going to get the lake to themselves on opening day. Must be new around here…said they had been camping out on their spot for two days that was well over a quarter mile always from us. Claimed we were going to ruin their hunt. If they had been camping out for two days, you think they would have known where the birds wanted to be. Classic public land experience.

Hopefully they took our spot after we shot our quick limits.

3 GWT and a merganser this morning on Somerville.

Saw 5 or 6 good sized groups of teal but mostly leaving lake.

Around 8:30 we saw two big groups of new ducks moving in headed South.

We grinded out a 3 man limit but shot more divers than I normally would. I shot a pretty good pintail drake and drake mottled duck too. Pics to come soon

Sounded like the number of boats on the lake this morning versus the number of shots was way off. Stepped out of the camp about 5am and was non stop mud motors until about lunch. Never understood how people can wait all year, just to be late on opener.
