I'm considering putting some rainbow trout in my small pond this winter. Looking for advice. Have any of you done that? For family fishing for grandkids.

I know the state stocks city ponds in College Station.
Also there was a guy on 2CoolFishing (MeadowLark) who used to write about stocking trout in his Huntsville Texas ponds.

You would have to replace them every fall wouldn't you? Maybe I'm wrong but don't think they could survive Texas summers.

You're correct. It would be a one season stock & catch fishery.

Pond is in my front yard, small about 1/3 of an acre, about 8feet deep.

No problems with water turkeys. Just the occasional heron.

I put in my pond a few times for neighborhood kids and nephews . I get an email from Lochow usually in November . Think I spent about 1000 bucks. Caught through March or so. Probably only caught half of what was put in, but it was fun. Could have got by for less but they were easy to catch on some small crappie lures. My pond is about 1.8 acres.

Got a quote today from Lochow. Approximately 100 lbs of Rainbows, 1-2 pounds each for $1500.
I'm going to give it a try.

A good Thanksgiving. Grandkids went trout fishing in our little Brazos County pond.

This one weighed slightly under a pound, caught on a Mepps inline spinner.

A lot of fun and squeals.

Lochow delivered Monday, beautiful lively trout.

The kids and their mom watched me clean one and identify internal organs.

Well, that trout experiment was a $$ bust.

Record warm temperatures plus low water levels from extended Brazos County drought resulted in a total loss of the Rainbow Trout. Heck of a thing to see Christmas Day.

I started aerating to hopefully save a couple but at least 3/4 are dead. Going to be in the 80s for 3 more days.

No catch and release?

Man I hate that for you sir. I watching your thread and was thinking about doing the same but I live here in the Ozarks where it's much colder…..however our high yesterday was 75!

Sucks because Grandkids came over today to fish. Oldest granddaughter gave me her Christmas present- a photo of her holding her trout.

Plus wife invited a bunch of kids down the road from us to fish.

Toss in some bluegills and it'll be some good medicine.

Damn. Sounds like something that would happen to my plans. That truly does suck.
