My frame was loose so I tightened it. It appears the lens cracked when I tightened it even though i didn't over-tighten.
Any chance that is covered? If not, anyone know how much to replace the lens?

I went to the link below and made a claim. I was hesitant about the pair without the receipt but they covered them. The two replacements that I'm allegedly getting are not the same frame but are the same lenses.

Yep. Had a nosepiece degrade and had to pay 85 bucks or whatever their fee was to get a replacement.

Got it. Had multiple repaired during this time frame and it wasn't as "cheap" as I thought it should be.

I just filed a warranty claim, nose piece

We'll see what they say. ..

Got my warranty claim denied.

They offered me a replacement pair at $68.

I had rubber flaking off on my nose piece. I sent them photos and since they were discontinued, they offered me a "pick from these" replacement. I picked one and immediately replied back that I wanted to change and they confirmed that they could change. I ended up being sent 2 new pairs after I sent them my damaged pair.

Bank error in your favor.

sometimes having too much bloat in a company works out better for the end consumer.

I submitted 2 warranty claims a few months ago. one was approved and the other was denied. the one denied was much worse than the one that was approved.

I've had 2 or 3 claims on costa pairs over the years. Mainly was a pair of Brines, the rubber would separate from the plastic mold on the earpieces due to the adhesive wearing out. Every time I've submitted a claim, shipped them in, and either got the exact same pair back, or the most recent time they told me they were replacing and didnt have those in silver mirror anymore so I got the same pair but in green mirror. All I've ever been out is the shipping cost to them.

I'm always wondering what exactly people are sending in for, on the warranty claims that are denied. I recall a poster on a previous costa thread being mad his request was denied, but later posted he had sat on them and cracked the lenses. I dont think any warranty covers stuff like that, nor should it be expected to.

I had good luck on them replacing Costas due to rubber deterioration. That all changed last year, they would deny for that and send me a 50% off coupon for a new pair. I switched to Smiths and Bajios since then.

For you boys that sight cast and need to see the fish to make shots in shallow water, I've got a strong endorsement for a relatively new company called PBO (purpose built optics).

Based in Texas, they make lenses using a different tech and have a model called Chandy that are a complete game changer. I've owned 8-10 different brands/lens colors from all the big players always looking for a leg up as my color blindness is my weakness when sightcasting - these are next level good. You can see through the water much better and spot fish at much greater distances than with traditional polarized inshore lenses.

Give them a try if you need to spot fish in shallow water along the Texas coast.

I've got some of their Mansfield sunglasses. I too am colorblind and they definitely help reds standout over grass in comparison to Costa and Bajios. I wish they made glass lenses versus the polycarbonate. For my money though, Smith's chromapop technology really make reds pop. Even more so than the PBOs.

So interesting how individual lens selection is for each person's eyes and needs. Until I wore the PBO Chandys, the Smith Low Light igniters (chroma pop) were hands down the best lens for my eyes. I wore them 95% of the time because I could see fish better with them even in full sun.

What I learned from reading about ocular fatigue though is that the low lights let too much light in through a long day on the water, particularly with full sun, and that was causing my vision to degrade during the day as my eyes got tired. I couldn't figure out why I could see fish early but late in the day I couldn't see them any more. My eyes were being oversaturated with light all day. So then I tried some of their other chroma pop lenses in full sun days but still couldn't see the fish like I could with the low lights.

That brings us to the current update, for my eyes (red green color blind) the PBO Chandy's were night and day better than the Smith low light igniter (chroma pops).

And because my vision is such a priority I bought 2 pair of PBOs and tried them side by side (a pair of Mansfields and Chandys, switching back and forth the same day on the casting and poling platform on a bunch of different flats in clean and dirty water), and the Chandy's were better for me than the Mansfields, hands down a clear winner, so I sent the Mansfields back.

Just one more data point that Costa warranty and repair services are trash now. Laughable that they want me to spend almost $200 to replace my glasses that would have been a warranty replacement under previous ownership.

What are they denying? Or what's the warranty claim?

I ask because I have had really good success over the past couple of years, even after the buyout, but now have another pair that I'm considering sending in.

I had been meaning to submit a claim for my Spearo frames with glass lenses for a while, just hadn't, due to the tortoise shell print coming off of the frame, and the rubber ear pads disintegrating. Living with that, I finally submitted because my glasses dropped out of the overhead console in my Ferd, landed in my passenger seat, and cracked the frame above one of the lenses in two.

I'm going to superglue the frames back together, deal with the flaking coating and disintegrating rubber, trash talk Costa, and stick to Goodrs (and PBO) for now.
