I bought my son a Meta Quest 3S VR headset for Christmas. He wants to play PC games on it, so he's connected it via USB to his Windows 11 PC. He has installed the Meta Quest Remote Desktop app and Mixed Reality Link for Windows 11. He has paired the devices.

His PC is a AMD Ryzen 7 5800X with 32 GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT w/16 GB RAM for video.

He unplugs/replugs the USB cable, clicks Enable, it begins loading, and then he gets a message that it's disconnected. On his external display, Windows pops up with "We can't find your headset. Please reconnect your headset." Have any of you set one of these up? My googling has led to a lot of advice; most of it very generic (make sure nothing unnecessary is running/update your video drivers/etc) and hasn't been terribly helpful.

One thing I have noticed is that Meta has a list of video chipsets that are supported and unsupported. The AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT doesn't appear on the list at all. The problem Benny has described doesn't sound (to me) like a driver issue, but I wanted to mention this.

I was grasping at straws and decided to use a different USB to USB C cable. I replaced the 10' cable that I bought this morning at Best Buy with a 5' cable that has Nintendo branding on it. Everything works now. A 5' cable isn't terribly practical for VR, but I know the issue and will dig into USB cable standards.

EDIT - Thinking the cable I bought today was only USB 2. I didn't know they still made those, but it isn't blue like USB 3 cables usually are.

Quest are very particular about the link cable. I've had all kinds of issues with mine depending on the quality of the cable.

Virtual desktop works pretty well if you want to play around with wireless. It is not a free app but you can always buy it and try it then ask for a refund if you have it less than two weeks and used it for less than 2 hours or something like that.

Have fun there are some really good PC titles that are amazing on Quest. The Lone Echo series in particular is a great game and experience.

Cables are very important for the Quest 3. After a couple of failed Amazon cables, I ended up biting the bullet and buying the Quest branded cable at Walmart for $80. I've had three cables fail including the original. All flight sim, so not like it's moving around a bunch. Just a very fragile connection for a kinetic device that you operate while blinded.
