About to move into a new house. The old Samsung plasma is being retired to the bedroom. Our new living room is pretty big and I would like a 75", but have to make sure the space will allow it.

Is OLED the way to go now? How much better than LED/mini LED/ UHD? Is the cost worth it?

OLED is 100% worth it as long as the room it's going in is not super bright. I have a 27" OLED computer monitor and it amazes me how good the contrast is. Dark scenes are also so much clearer. They have two downsides, burn in and brightness. Burn in should not be a problem with a TV, more of an issue with computers that constantly have static images. They are not as bright as LED panels but as long as you can control lighting in the room, it's not a big issue.

Definitely OLED or QD-OLED. 65" is diwn to sub 800 now last i think I saw. 75 should be around 1k maby? Love my Samsung QD-OLED 65". Look up calibration settings for your specific tv on rtings or similar after you get it installed. Filmmaker mode + tweaks = absolutely gorgeous picture quality.

OLED has the best dynamic range and blacks, to my eyes. However, when I bought my 82" TV, I opted for the Samsung QLED models in lieu of OLED because I had very bad screen burn with my old 55" OLED TV.

Either from video games or the news tickers on channels like ESPN or Fox News can slowly burn in over time. Granted, my 55" OLED was bought very early on, so some of the technology may have changed to make this happen less often.

Honestly, my QLED looks absolutely amazing and I don't miss the OLED much, which I keep in my room. Can I tell a difference? Definitely, but that could also be because I'm usually watching 1080p or 4K content on the 82" screen vs watching that same content on a 55" 4K TV.

I will say, I find it hilarious how some people ask questions like this and then go buy a cheap brand. There is more to a screen than a simple resolution count.

ETA: Also, the cost of the same size OLED was something like $4-5,000, so saving $1-2,000 on going with a larger QLED was just the better decision for me and my budget, at the time.. I bought my Samnsung from a buddy of mine who i've referred a lot of AV business to, over the years. He hooked me up with that amazing TV and a Sonos Arc sound bar with the Sub, all at his costs.

If you don't go oled, you gotta check dimming zones on panel or you will get nasty light blooms in black/dark scenes.

I got the OLED 77" LG C4 last year and love it. Of course, this year's model is the C5 but I don't think there's a huge difference.

This is a very huge call out I don't see a lot on TV buying, especially the larger you go. I would say once you hit sizes 75 and higher the number of dimming zones might become the biggest thing to pay attention to on non-oled TVs

How about the Samsung Neo QLEDs?

QLED is just a marketing ploy to sell LED tvs for more money by making the term as close to OLED as possible. It has nothing to do with OLED technology.

LG seems to be the best value with the C series. If sound is super important to you from the TV itself, the G might be worth the step up.

Don't overlook a Samsung Frame. I get compliments from most visitors.

Has anybody had success finding a quality non-smart TV?

There isn't such a thing anymore. The dumbest smart tv is probably a firestick tv, a roku tv or an onn Walmart tv. You might find a projector that is dumber though but that's harder to set up than a plain tv.

They don't exist. You don't have to use the features of it though. I have a 4K Samsung TV that is about 6 or so years old and I have never once used any of the smart TV features. I have always had a PS4 or PS5 plugged into it for anything I needed.

Im looking for a new one as well, but am trying to stay away from Black Friday specials.

I bought one from Costco (Sony Bravia XBR 65 90CH -- the Costco 900H variant) in 2020 for 1500 bucks or so and the boards crapped out after 3.5 years.

Good news is Costco had the extended warranty, so the boards were replaced for free. However, they were somehow replaced with the 900H boards and the functionality of the TV is wonky. I used to be able to turn on the TV by streaming something to it because the wifi was already on and looking for inputs...the new one the TV has to be on and it has to be on the main screen by going home. If it goes to the idle screen with the Google pictures, it wont stream, so you have to use the remote to hit "home" before it will let you.

When there are commercials during streaming, it turns the volume on the TV up 4 levels, which sucks because I usually have the TV on 0 because I use a soundbar, so after 2-3 commercials, you start hearing the delay between the TV sounds and sound bar sound...

All kinds of problems.

I also wont buy a samsung because the one i bought for my kids play room is absolute garbage software and interface wise.

Yea, samsung os is terrible compared to LGs or Sony or Vizios but it was only 1 of 2 options for a for a 65" QD-OLED when i bought mine and i got it for a steal from some mom and pop shop in Florida. Think all in with an extended 5y warranty i paid about $1800 shipped to my door. Its a gorgeous tv on filmaker mode once you get past the interface. Tweaked the colors based on rtings and it pops.

The closest thing I've found is commercial monitors but they aren't priced for consumers.

But at the end of the day, just buy the TV you want and don't connect it to the internet.
