Wow, I'm into episode 4 and it's truly amazing. Brings back so many memories I've not thought about in years. It's definitely a must watch for any Cowboy fan especially if you are in your 50s like me.

Great doc. Just finished episode 4.

Welp, I finished all eight and let me say, I've had apathy for the last few years like most of us but damn, I love the Star no matter what and have since I was a little kid and that will never change.

Yes sir, that's me too!

Just finished episode 1... How they left off with the arrival of Aikman. Chills man. That was the golden era of the Cowboys.

I was just a kid at the time, but I saw Aikman play as a rookie in preseason against the Oilers. Every other QB looked like a pop warner player by comparison. He had an absolute arm cannon which would go on to win 3 Super Bowls!

I think the documentary is great, as I'm through episode 4. But it reminds me of just how lucky Jones is that the well he invested in turned into that money. To me, he runs the Cowboys like a wildcatter. Takes chances on a whim, hopes his strategies actually produce something, and just makes money off the brand. Has no idea how to win as he has no idea how an NFL team should be developed and built in the salary cap era. Clown show that never stops. He's an incredible carnival barker.

Probably will. I tear up during Rocky II when he finally beats Apollo. I'm a sucker for the feels when it comes to people or teams and championship stories.

I'm 2 episodes in... Fantastic show!

If Raiders fans (and Browns fans) have taught us anything, it's we can love our team, while also having no feeling whatsoever for ownership

Certain franchises are the straws that stir the drink, no matter what the results are on the field, just because of their fans, the other fanbases hating them, and the media that follows them continuously.

The Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers, Notre Dame Football, and Duke Basketball...those national brands stir the drink, even if they aren't champions or go thru a severe drought, like Dallas and Notre Dame are in.

But the families that run the pro teams listed, they are some of the most narcissistic, egotistical, and morally bankrupt folks that we have in this country. They perfectly reflect Western Cultural rot today. And get rewarded for decades past. Because every great coach, player, and GM want to be the ones to bring them glory. But in Dallas' case, the one guy won't take on anyone who could grab even a hint of glory over him. So here we are, wandering the desert, just like the Israelites did, reaching that 40 years (or more) eventually. The Dallas Cowboys played in the NFC Championship 16 times in the first 30 years of the Super Bowl era. This will the 60th year, this season, of that era--nothing since 1995. That kind of failure is simply ridiculous. The Yankees haven't won a title since 2009, but they at least played for one last year. The Lakers won one in 2020, but they made the Western Conference Finals in 2023. Notre Dame hasn't won a title since 1988, but they at least played for it last year. Duke hasn't won a title since 2015, but they were in the Final Four last season. That's what the NFL is dreaming of having one day with Dallas. But like the Raiders under Al Davis and the Redskins under Little Danny Snyder, poor ownership breeds underachievement in everything. And that's why Dallas is lumped with Cleveland and Miami as teams that have been away from a conference championship game, much less a Super Bowl, for 30+ years. It won't change...because it can't change with the man in charge.

Still watching, but I already got emotional watching the episodes with the '92 NFC Championship & Super Bowl.

And if anybody thinks that's super lame for a 40+ year old man you can go pound sand! Those Super Bowls were happening during my football playing years and the 95/96 Super Bowl team was my first year of varsity football.

Those guys were my heroes and every Friday Night when I laced 'em up and played in front of my hometown, every game felt like my Super Bowl. I loved it so much. The Cowboys will always be my team and I especially love reminiscing about the 90's.

Saw the first episode.

- Still love Coach Landry
- have a great fondness for Jimmy
- Jerry is still a loathsome, greedy, self serving SOB. But he's a great gambler/businsessman/marketer.

Just finished it. I grew up with the poster of Irvin spinning off the Bills defenders for TD on my wall. The memories that show brought back were amazing. Heck I picked some coworkers up from the Los Colinas Residence Inn 2 years ago and I'm pretty sure it was the one Irvin was arrested at.

One quote stood out to me though that just highlights the issues. In episode 4 Jerry talks about the championship parade and he said "The last time we had a parade all these people were here for Landry and now they were here for me…..and the team." That's his issue, it shouldn't have anything to do with him.

I hope one day I can sit down and watch a Cowboys Super Bowl with my son like I did with my dad but with the Jones family in charge, it seems like something will always keep that from happening.

Did Netflix enhance Beuerlein's eyes? I get that he has blue eyes, but he looks like the Night King in this.

Regardless of what you think about him personally, Irvin is an entertaining character.

Finished the series earlier today, so it is all a bit fresh. First, I am no Cowboys fan and never have been one. That being said, I walked away with a bit of a different perspective having not thought about that dynasty for a long time but lived in the DFW area when it was all happening.

I see a lot of negative comments about Jerry Jones in this thread. I guess a lot of it is warranted, but I also have a newfound respect for some of the things he did to change the NFL. Say what you want about Jerry's management of the Cowboys but I have a lot of admiration for how he took on the old guard and basically told Tagliabue, the Debartolos and the other owners to shove their monopoly up their ass. When he walked out of that meeting and told them he would collect every last penny of his lawsuit from those mf'ers, good on him.

Few other thoughts:
  • The dynasty would have been even greater if Jones just would have checked his ego about Jimmy Johnson.
  • Would love to know the truth about whose idea it was to trade Herschel to Minnesota, waive all of those players and cash in the draft picks. My guess it was Jimmy's idea.
  • Think Emmitt comes off as a pretty stand-up guy. He was in the middle of it all and seems to maintained a level of professionalism. Hard to fathom a back as great as him had to hold out for a ~$14million contract.
  • Michael Irvin - what can you say. I feel like I have known 5 guys like Michael. You either love the guy or you hate him, but damn he was a great pro WR. It would be fun to sit down and talk to Michael about football and how he went about his craft.
  • I never realized how pissed Troy was about Switzer. Oh boy, was he pissed. Also can't believe the beating he took in those final years of playing. I always thought Troy was a guy who did not suffer fools easily, and boy does this series prove it.
You can't do what those guys did back then. No team would ever do a deal like Minnesota did. They took those draft picks and some free agent signings and turned that whole franchise around. After watching the last few episodes I can see why the football aspect of the Cowboys has suffered over the past several years. Like his wife says, he just can't help himself. Today's game and the management of a franchise is so different from what it used to be. I don't think Jerry will sniff another SB before he dies, but he will leave Stephen and the kids a team worth a fortune.

I have watched the first episode and 45/68 minutes in the second episode, and I have enjoyed it so far. As a 49ers fan, I am looking forward to watching the coverage of the 49ers vs Cowboys playing in 3 consecutive NFC Championship games from 1992 to 1994.

I was a Cowboy fan well before the Jerry years. I break it down into Landry cowboys / Jerry cowboys

Absolutely hated the way Jerry treated Tom. Tom deserved so much more as well as Tex Schramm who was the architect of the teams.

Now, the cowboys are the laughing stock of the NFL and the sports world.

But I will say, my respect of Troy has doubled since watching this show. Now I see why he bags on the cowboys so much.

Fun show. Love seeing the old clips and analysis of those games. Learned a lot. Jerry is an epic salesman but all the early criticism came back to haunt him on the field. But he's still making mega bucks so I guess he's still winning.

Watched it carefully. I was a preteen when all this was happening so I just remember the wins and some vague talk about the off-field drama.

I came away liking the cowboys a lot less. Jerry is still an insufferable ******* in my mind, but even jimmy didn't have a life outside football, and most of the cowboys of this time come off diminished. The "White House" antics were so cringeworthy. Emmitt and Troy come off well, most of the rest of the team look like fools or villains. And Deion is just Deion, unapologetically true to himself.

Jerry's "taking the cowboys corporate" wasn't some maverick move, it was a naked cash grab to slap an ad on every surface and extract every dime from the fan. He helped usher in an era where a family of four can't afford to go to a game.

I moved on from caring about the cowboys years ago, and while this was still a highly interesting watch…I'm glad Jerry spent all that time unable to build a winner of his own. I genuinely hope he doesn't see success again.

I have watched 3 episodes. Bill Romanoski said that Charles Haley wanted to punch former San Francisco 49ers head coach George Seifert, and this account is supported by other reports of Haley's volatile behavior during that time. The clashes between Haley and Seifert were well-documented and ultimately led to Haley's trade to the Dallas Cowboys in 1992 Charles Haley said, "95% of what they said is probably true but that 5% pissed me off."

In the 3rd episode, Jerry Rice said, "I still say today that was the worst mistake we ever made." The 49ers and Cowboys are forever connected with Ken Norton Jr. (2 with the Cowboys in 1992 and 1993 and 1 with the 49ers in 1994), Charles Haley (2 with the 49ers in 1988 and 1989 and 3 with the Cowboys in 1992, 1993, and 1995) and Deion Sanders (1 with the 49ers in 1994 and 1 with the Cowboys in 1995) all winning Super Bowl rings with both teams.

Yeah, either the 49'ers dismissed the Cowboys as being too young and not a threat, or they thought that Haley might possibly implode their locker room.

But either way, yeah, it was a terrible mistake giving that kind of talent (top 2 or 3 most disruptive DEs at the time) to a fellow NFC team coming off a playoff season.

Really enjoyed the documentary. It's amazing how many of those moments during their Super Bowl wins in the mid 90s that I remember, particularly since I was 9-12 years old. I guess that is why I'm such a huge Cowboys fan, that early success (in my life and Jerry's ownership) just hooked me!

Edit: I do also see how the same issues Jerry had early on with the Cowboys - resigning Emmitt, the 'credit' for the Super Bowl wins with Jerry - have continued to hang over his head

I honestly forgot how much the cowboys changed NFL corporate sponsorship in the 90s. The league can thank Jerry for the money and salary cap. Owners really made out well $$$$

I think I have 2 more episodes. Really enjoying this series.

I recall going to the Fort Sam Houston hacienda theatre in 1992 to watch the cowboys vs 49ers. On the big screen. Place was packed with hundreds of soldiers and when Harper caught that slant in the 4th quarter and took off I think I lost hearing from the roar in that place! It was incredible. Such an amazing changing of the guard moment.

I don't think this record will be broken with the modern game. Running backs are not featured as much and longevity is a big factor.
