There is no hope.

Agreed.

In other news, PFF overvalues Stroud by a lot. I don't know if there's a single Texans fan that wouldn't take this outcome...

We need DeShaun Watson to retire so we can trade CJ to the Browns for a bunch of draft picks.

Interesting...it will never happen, but it might work for both if it was tried.

But, no way either team pulls the trigger on that.

Go get him; trade Stroud for a bag of peanuts. Win-win.

Kirk Cousins now is probably about as good as Matt Schaub years ago, which coincidentally is probably good enough for a championship with this defense.

I'd entertain it.

Schaub looked like Joe Montana after 4-5 seasons of David Carr.

Unfortunately this is all a management question. Can Demeco push hard enough - or does he push at all - to get the GM and owner to replace Stroud by convincing them that a decent vet, fewer injuries, and his defense can win a SB next year?

The only time I remember a Houston team bailing on its incumbent QB was trading Pastorini for Ken Stabler, and I was 5 years old when that happened.

I would put Deshaun Watson in that category on incumbent QBs we bailed on.....

Dolphins, Cardinals face challenges in Tua Tagovailoa, Kyler Murray trades

i wouldn't trade for Tua because he seems one big hit away from just dying on the field but Kyler, despite also making lots of dumb decisions, could at least run the ball in situations where CJ prefers a 3- yard fumble pass to TJ Watt.

Well yes, but I meant for bad play on the field, not for demanding a trade and refusing to play and all the off-the-field stuff.

Kyler is not the answer. Not sure he even wants to play anymore.

I suspect he is the DC next year when Burke likely gets a better opportunity.

well the silver lining tonight is that if the Texans were in this game, CJ would have 12 turnovers right now.

Based on Maye's performance, I don't think CJ was going play any other way. We were not going to win against Seattle.

FWIW I think the Super Bowl last night set a great example for what a team like Houston has to be in order to win it all. Houston's defense is the caliber necessary to not just get there but also win so that part of the formula is taken care of. What each team did and did not accomplish is what they need to focus on this offseason.

1 - Your QB doesn't have to be great, but he does have to be good enough to give you a chance to win. Sam Darnold was 19/38 for 202 yards, 1 TD, and no turnovers. Drake Maye was 27/43 for 295 yards, 2 TD's, and 3 turnovers. We already know about Stroud's issues taking care of the ball in the playoffs, Darnold is proof that you can get it done if you're not a liability. That being said both QB's were both taking a lot of chances last night, Darnold had multiple passes that could have been intercepted, they just weren't. Stroud has to be better about protecting the ball.
2 - You need a run game you can lean on when you are having an issue moving the ball in the air. Seattle completely shut down the designed run game of NE, who ended up with only 42 yards rushing by Stevenson and Henderson. Their other 37 yards came from Maye on scrambles. Maye extended a couple of drives though because he was willing to run when it was open, which Stroud fails to do. Walker was justifiably the MVP because of what he was able to get done on the ground. He was patient and made NE pay for it. Houston needs to add a real NFL starting caliber RB on the roster this offseason.
3 - A great DL makes for a long night for the opposing offensive line. It felt like each OL played similarly to me last night, neither QB was getting much time to get rid of the ball. This point just really reinforces point number 1 about the QB, don't be a liability. Seattle's interior OL was better last night and proved to be a factor. Houston needs to improve the interior of the OL.
4 - You need a TE who can block and make catches when called on. Schultz is not a

For as low as I felt after the loss to NE, that game last night did give me some level of optimism about what needs to be done. If Caserio makes the right moves this offseason I believe there could be a real improvement in 2026. I also think 2026 is Stroud's last shot to figure it out in Houston, if he's not better then they gotta move him.

I think the Texans have a legitimate chance to win a title in the next couple of seasons based simply on the strength of their defense and the lack of any juggernaut-like team right now. Seattle was excellent this season in a year where the league (especially the AFC) just seemed down the entire time. The Chiefs, Ravens and Bills all had down years, and while New England, Denver, Jacksonville and the Texans were all very good, they're all younger teams that look like they're still missing something.

I agree with some of the earlier thoughts that they have to spend so much of their focus bringing in physical offensive linemen who can impose the run game when it is needed. Need a quality, every-down back, and adding a difference maker at tight end helps as well. Dominant defense with a quality run game you can depend on. If you have that, then Stroud can effectively be the game manager Darnold was last night.

I would love for Stroud to turn into an elite QB and I still think he can, but you may not need that guy to win it all.

All these offensive needs were present last offseason, and Caserio delivered what we saw. Shouldn't be trusted to get another chance, but here we are.

Last year, our biggest needs were OL and WR.

He traded back a little and drafted Ersery early in the second round, and then took the Iowa State receivers with the next two picks. While the verdict is still out for all of these guys, Ersery handled himself pretty well as a rookie and looks to be a starting tackle for you going forward. Higgins and Noel also played a lot, with Higgins looking like a guy who can be a good possession receiver and Noel doing some good things in special teams and in the slot. I think Nick drafted pretty well last season.

Now, on the flip side, I thought the free agency effort was poor. I had no problem trading Tunsil, but Cam Robinson, Ed Ingram, Laken Tomlinson and Jake Andrews was not good enough. Ingram was the only one who played well at all, and he may have priced himself out of the Texans budget. Getting something out of the ghost of Trent Brown was cool, but going forward he has to be your swing tackle if you want to resign him.

Running back wasn't a need. We had Mixon, we hadn't given up on Pierce yet, we drafted Woody and signed the ghost of Nick Chubb. That should have been pretty good. Mixon messed that up.

And, if you're going to kill Caserio for the offensive personnel, you also have to give him credit for the defensive personnel. Sting, Will, Pitre, Hunter, Lassiter, Aziz, Bullock, To'oto'o...he drafted or signed all of those guys.

Caserio isn't perfect, but he has made more good decisions than bad decisions. AND, he isn't going anywhere.

I think we're over right now, but I'm pretty sure we have a lot of flexibility in cut potentials and contract restructures to free up more than enough to be active….i think lol

I'm doubtful we would use an early pick on a WR. And doubly so if the team thinks Tank is going to make it back.

As much as I love KC, I can't see the Texans drafting him. We have so many bigger needs, and they just drafted Noel, who does a lot of the same things.

Nico, Higgins, Hutchison, Noel and hopefully Tank. Need much more help at IOL, RB and maybe even TE. I doubt they take a WR before Day 3.

I think this is right. With a little maneuvering, we should be able to create enough space to sign a few guys.

Unless they load up on offense in free agency, I'm going to be real disappointed if they take take a defensive player in the first round.

I hear you, but our interior DL is the following going into next year before FA:

  • Junior Tafuna
  • Kyonte Hamilton
  • Tomy Togiai
  • Mario Edwards
I bet they make a run to resign Rankins, but he is also 31. We need youth and talent at the interior DL, so if there's not an OL you love at the pick this is the way they'd go.
