is this show worth it?

thinking about starting it but my TV time is limited these days and usually only start shows with unanimous reviews

It was a really good limited series. The cast was excellent.

For someone that never watched, it is a good option.

The show was great until he switched attorneys. I really enjoyed it until that point, but wasn't a fan after that. I finished the show but it's not one I'd ever watch again, plenty of better stuff than that on HBO Max.

I personally thought this show was the start of what we now know as the streamer binger, with not a great pay out at the end. Start off with a crazy awesome episode 1, create some mystery, leave each episode with a cliff hanger, string it out for 8-10 episodes, then the big reveal is very underwhelming. This was a series that could have been a 90 min movie.

But you do you, dawg! Enjoy it!

I believe they filmed the pilot with James Gandolfini before he has passed away so they had to reshoot it after casting Turturro. Great show.

Ya it's an incredible premise that fizzles out

LOL, I watched it and I don't remember how it ends.

It has some intense moments and now I am terrified of Rikers Island.

unanimous is a little hyperbole but it just needs to be hitting on a pretty high rate.

This show starts with an amazing episode 1, but quickly takes a turn into absurdity.

Putting the absurd plot points in spoiler tags:

This completely normal, nice kid somehow turns into a hardened criminal within a few weeks of being placed in prison. It is supposed to be a critique on our justice system, but it just comes off as absurd and poorly executed with eye rolling prison tropes. His lawyer decides to sneak drugs into jail via her prison pocket because our protagonist simply asked her to do it. The court scenes are some of the worst legal scenes I've seen in a piece of media that takes itself seriously. A painstaking amount of time is dedicated to his original lawyer's eczema issues literally somewhere around 20-30 minutes of an 8 episode limited series is dedicated to this eczema subplot which was a ham-fisted metaphor for our legal system or the case itself or whatever. And unfortunately there is no satisfying conclusion for the case, although the answer is strongly hinted at
