...as in chair.

First you've got Bruce Springsteen having to use a teleprompter to go on his political rants. But then there's David Lee Roth. Sheesh

Fall of 2022 the wife and I saw Joan Jett, Poison, Def Leppard, and Motley Crue at Allegiant in Vegas.

Joan was badass at 63 at the time. Not a big fan but man she could wail.

We mostly had drink during Poison, didn't really care.

Def Leppard was what we came for and they were flat out amazing. They sounded like they did in the 80's/90's. all of them were in shape. Read that some of them really became health nuts over the years. Joe Elliot hasn't skipped a beat vocally.

Then Crue came on we left during the second song. They were horrible. Vince Neil was so bloated looking thought he was going to float away.

Went to GNR in San Antonio in 2023. I will say, while Axl can't come anywhere close to where he was vocally he can still hang in for a long show. Slash and Duff haven't skipped a beat. In fact, Duff is also muscled up. Looked kind of like a road hard Hemsworth.

Took my younger boy to Metallica at NRG last summer. They killed it. Show was badass. Hope to see them again in next couple of years.

I actually saw the Lords of Acid this weekend. Greatest part of that was watching all the goth girls in the audience get up on stage and dance to the P***y song!. Their main singer in latex was a close second though!

Duff traded his reported gallon of vodka a day for martial arts and biking to stay in great shape after his pancreas exploded.

Roth obviously lost it but is also maddening because he was allowed to choose the performances for their last official releases, Tokyo and Dallas live shows. Dallas is OK, but there were many better options than the dome, and fan speculation is he liked how his Japanese verbiage was for those shows, so we got mediocre performances instead of much better ones

Tell you doesn't need the rocking chair - Bruce Dickinson. I've seen Maiden twice or three times over their last couple of tours and dude still has incredible energy.

Not sure needing a teleprompter should be a disqualifier, half the industry uses them. Springsteen still has more stage activity/presence (albeit completely scripted) than guys half his age.

And to add to the Vince Neil criticism - at the show in Arlington it wasn't just his terrible voice, but he just stood in front of a big fan the entire time to stay cool. Reminded me of Homer in his moomoo.

Vince Neil, Axl Rose, David Lee Roth. At this point its pure embarrassment.

What was up with David Lee Roth's hand puppetry the entire time he was singing?

Would love to see them live again. Saw them a few times in the early 90s

Axl took online criticism to heart and has treated Angus with great respect, a rock god who wants to die onstage.

So he gets a pass from me.

Agree with the mentioned Axl, Dave, and Vince. Ive seen Triumph, Bret Michaels, Tesla, Sammy Hagar recently and are all still great.

I think EJ still sounds pretty good.. hasn't hit the falsetto/higher stuff in decades, but he still has such great character in his voice.

Course I don't know if I've heard him sing in the last handful of years.

These guys are taking care of themselves too. Personal trainers and chefs on tour, very light tour cycles.

Hard to believe they will be 70 and playing battery and master of puppets before we know it.

Brett Michaels seems legitimately honored to be playing for audiences. Very refreshing.

Rob Halford was definitely relying on monitors when I saw him a couple years back and wasn't a super-active stage presence. He could still belt, though.

Don Henley can still sing.

AC/DC and the Scorpions need to stop.

These old guys, it's got to be hard to come off the road. They're making so much more touring now than they ever did in their heyday. They probably feel like they'd be leaving a ton of money on the table.

And with the exception of Roth, who is a solo performer now, there is always that guy in the band that didn't get publishing royalties or spent his money very foolishly, and is like "C'mon guys, I need the money....one more tour". I know John Entwistle was an example of that.

And then, it's just keeping the lifestyle they've come accustomed to.. Vince Neil's private jet isn't going to pay for itself. His fans need to contribute. Same with Nikki Sixx's $7 Million property near Malibu, and his mountain ranch outside Jackson Hole.

The better question would be, who hasn't toured in their 70s but could have? Jimmy Page is the only one that comes to mind. Could have easily signed up Myles Kennedy and an all-star band, but didn't. Of course, he has serious F-you publishing money, but so do others that still tour.

The one I've wondered about the most (and more recently with his SNL performance) is McCartney. Dude just must really like playing and being on the road. He must be having fun.

Came here to post what was in your last paragraph. Watching McCartney on SNL was rough. I guess these guys just love performing. Can't imagine he's doing it for the money.

Plenty retain strong voice - Billy Joel, those mentioned on this thread, and I'd even say Axl after he decided fan criticism was valid.

Pete and Roger don't really get along, but they're capable as well. Also Jagger and Ronnie and Keith sort of

The list of artists from the 60s still touring is getting pretty small.

First, assuming we dwindle it down to rock, you've got
PmC/Starr
Stones
Who
Dylan
Santana
Mike Love
Fogerty
Steve Miller

what others?

Change it to the 70s and it gets waaaay bigger.

Change it to the 50s, and I don't know of any in the rock world really. Chubby Checker? Probably some jazz or blue eyed soul types. BB King and little richard are gone.

Needless to say, we have a long way to go before all the 70s acts are down to a few. We certainly still have 10+ years before all the 60s acts are gone like the 50s currently are.
