Tuesday's Gone by lynyrd skynyrd puts me in a weird funk or melancholy state. Don't know how to describe it or why it does.

Love the song and when I go to listen to it I'm just kinda down afterwards.

Can't think of any other songs that really affect me like that.

Lately it's been "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" by Neil Diamond and Barbara Streisand. Something about the way he says "you don't say you need me…." tears me up.

Anything by Prince makes my ears bleed. I do not understand the fascination with him.

Don Henly's Boys of Summer does that to me. It's one of my favorite songs, but it fills me with this bittersweet sense of yearning for something that's gone and never coming back. Just the first few chords are enough.

That makes me feel better. Can definitely see some nostalgia kicking in with boys of summer. Simpler times.

Fancy Like may be the worst popular song of all time. I'd rather listen to Baby Shark. Speaking of kids songs, Daddy Finger (IYKYK)

"Lord I Hope This Day Is Good" by Don Williams. I have a distinct memory of listening to that song very early in what turned out to be a very very bad day.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond was playing on the radio as I drove to the hospital knowing it was probably that last time I would see my dad. That one still gets me.

Don Williams had the smoothest voice back in the day.

Boys of Summer and about a million other songs from my high school days make me happy and sad at the same time. Thinking about the good old days when young, innocent, not a care in the world makes you happy and then sad that it is all gone.

Father of Mine by Everclear - I have a great father who was always present and just turned 70 yesterday, but from the perspective of being a father myself, I just can't imagine doing that to my girls and the pain it would cause any child.

Hurt - Johnny Cash - Makes me think about the struggles and pain of aging. Not only physically, but the regret that comes with knowing the best times of your life are likely behind you and there are some things you can't change. Also the people you have lost along the way.

Pearl Jam - Last Kiss - I know they're not the original, but it's the only version I've ever really listened to. Obviously losing a loved one in a car crash is horrible.

Jewel Songs - I don't know any song names, but they played one of her albums on repeat in the ICU room of my at the time 6 year old stepdaughter when the hospital was trying to convince my wife to let them pull the plug on her. Ultimately she refused and my stepdaughter is doing well today. That was a rough time.

Maggie - Sturgill Simpson - Who doesn't get emotional when you think about all of the good dogs you've lost and the good times you had with them throughout life?

Pumped Up Kicks- Sick song about a school shooting. Pisses me off anytime I hear it being played, but it sure has a catchy tune.

I have a pretty unique thing with Remember When, by Alan Jackson. When I lose someone super close, it's almost like the mourning process can't really turn loose until I listen to that song, while driving, with no one else in the car. And I choose to never listen to it at any other time.

"Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls

I broke up with my college girlfriend after a couple of years and she texted me the week after telling me to "listen to this song" because she felt it explained her current mood.

She did this throughout our relationship and I'd just Google the lyrics and comment back, but this time she was insistent I actually listen to it... I was in class so I just Googled the lyrics and was like "oh yeah, I get it. Sorry, whatever", I wasn't interested in continuing the relationship anymore so it was whatever.

Now I was born in '93 so I never really got into The Goo Goo Dolls, but I'd heard the song. Well now I'm married (to a different girl, huge upgrade) and I have actually gotten into The Goo Goo Dolls but I can't freaking listen to that song without thinking of my stupid college ex-gf.

Had to tell my wife the story because she wants to name our upcoming daughter…… Iris.

Ruined a great song and a good name.

I don't get the love for Prince either. I don't particularly hate his music, I'm just completely indifferent.

That's a great explanation. I have weirdly a similar experience, but fortunately, my wife never wanted to name our daughter "Shimmer". So I've never brought it up.

As an aside, avoiding the band Fuel has been the easiest decision of my adult life.

Prince is kind of like Buc-ee's. Lots of folks like Buc-ee's because it is a nice convenient store. Other folks like Buc-ee's because it is trendy. And then there are a some people who don't mind taking a dump at a truck stop and wonder what all the excitement is about Buc-ee's

"The Living Years" by Mike + the Mechanics hits wrong for me because it came out a few months after my dad died.

A song that I really liked as a child was "Loves Me Like A Rock" by Paul Simon…my mom had just gotten divorced and was trying to get on her feet. The "she gets down on her knees and hugs me 'cause she loves me like a rock" pretty much summed things up. She was the one constant in my corner. When she died in 2022, I just couldn't listen to that song without tearing up…I had to turn it off. I've gotten to where I can listen to it now, but it still stirs up a lot of emotion.

"Forever Young" by Alphaville reminds me of a high school friend that died in 2009 and while it doesn't get to me as viscerally as Loves Me Like A Rock, it takes me back to those days when things were definitely a lot simpler.

4 Non Blondes - What's Up.

It's just so f-ing terrible. I have to change the channel, leave the room, plug my ears, whatever to keep that god awful crap from getting in my head. I hate it so much.
