I love the song "Everything that glitters (is not gold) by Dan Seals. But I get irrationally upset at the thought that the mother just abandoning her daughter. Lyrics like "her birthday came and you never even called, I guess we never cross your mind at all"..

anyone else have a song that does that to them?

Same themes. Both great songs but they are too sad for me to listen to.

Long time GF had broken up with me a few days before and I'm driving to campus and comes on the radio and I'm just bawling my eyes out b/c I'm already sad as hell, I'm at this crossroad in life and this guy is singing about this awesome dog and dogs always love you.

Still hits me whenever I've heard it ever since then.

Lots of good ones mentioned already, so I'll add Johnny Cash's version of Hurt. Especially the video and seeing the once powerful Man in Black reduced to such a fragile state. When the piano kicks in I get a lump in my throat every time.

Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman. It's bad enough knowing your own daughters will eventually not be home some day, but to know that shortly after it was written, his 5 year old adopted daughter died when her teenage brother accidentally hit her with a car in their own driveway just crushing.

The piano version of Gone Away by The Offspring. Back in 1997 when the original came out I had never lost anyone that made this song hit very hard. I've lost some people in the past few years and since then it's a different song to me. I didn't even know the piano version existed until one of my friends passed away a few years back and it just showed up on Spotify out of nowhere. It's real tough to get through now.

This. I'd heard those idiots singing "I've Been Working On The Railroad", with the wrong lyrics, all my life. Even saw all those black teasip players holding up the devil sign and happily acting like they were singing along, as well.

All of a sudden, a few years ago, somebody decided the song is racist! What, "I've Been Working On The Railroad" didn't offend the descendants of all the Chinamen who got hauled over here to actually work on a railroad? But a teasip skit that used the song a hundred years before suddenly gave all those soon-to-be millionaires who neither knew nor cared about the lyrics suddenly got PTSD from it?

Now, that song makes me upset. Really upset. Almost as upset as "texas bite"….Suck it, 'sips.

It's a song that I have not heard in years now, but it was a Christmas song about a boy who just wanted to buy a pair of shoes for his mother, who would soon die. I first heard this song on KSBJ soon after my own mom had died, which explains my dislike of the song. No idea what the song was titled or who sang it.

Doesn't make me upset, but I've always thought "Same Old Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg was a real weeper -- a bittersweet look back at lost love and what could have been, juxtaposed with what was now.

The ending lines sang so mournfully always get me:

"Just for a moment I was back at school ... and felt that old, familiar pain. And as I turned to make my way back home, the snow turned into rain."

Fogelberg based the lyrics on a real situation that happened to him when he went home for the holidays. So there's a tinge of truthfulness in the story.

John Lennon's "Imagine". Musically beautiful, but it's basically his take on the communist manifesto.

Pat Travers Band's (cover of) "Boom Boom Out Go the Lights" - great song but when i realized it was about domestic abuse, I had to quit it.

Anything by Luke Bryan makes me upset because it's the worst music ever made, sung by the most hokey country accent known to man.

'On the Red River' by Turnpike makes me sad when I hear it. Love the song...but it hits me in the feels.

"Kiss From A Rose" by Seal is absolute dog*****

I have no idea about what the rest of Seal's catalogue looks like (maybe he's great) but I hated this song the first time I heard it and I actually feel myself get annoyed when it comes on.

Nothing makes me rage harder than We Built This City by Starship. The song is so awful that it makes me want to break something. They should have used it to torture detainees at Guantanamo by playing on an endless loop.
