I don't know about everyone else, but I think it was a great series. And it's been long enough that I don't remember every episode, so it's almost like watching a new series.

Cletus Van Damme will be my next username.

My favorite all-time show as well. I watched the first episode by happenstance at 1 am after getting home late from work one night, bought the Season 1 DVD the next day, and was off and running.

"Different Kind of Cop", the season 2 finale, and Dutch busting the serial killer and then having the meltdown are about as good as TV gets.

I love both of these. The way Southland ended was absolutely criminal.

The series finale is maybe the most suspenseful episode of TV I've ever seen. I've never seen anything quite like it before or since. You have to watch the whole series for it to fully hit you as well knowing everything you know about Vic and what he's trying to pull off. Truly edge of your seat entertainment.

Watching Vic set up Ronnie for the fall is the worst!

I remember reading about it, he said some really bizarre things according to witnesses. They had sons age 5 and 8 at the time of her death. that's about as miserable a situation as you're going to get.

That scene, and an early one where the couple have kidnapped a girl, cut off her arm, and have her tied up in the shower are the ones that really stuck in my mind over the years.

NSFW clip, but I feel like you could show this to anyone who has never seen it and they'd be binging it by tonight.
I like to imagine Chiklis won the Emmy in this scene during the first episode of the first season with most voters, then broke their brains when he murders another cop in cold blow 10 minutes later.

Rewatching it this time, you really notice how great of a character actor the creep doctor is as well. He goes from so pompous to that first flicker of nervousness to trying to appeal to the unseen cops that are watching on the TV to that fantastic physical reaction of Vic throat jabbing him.

Never seen this before, Chiklis really emotional after winning the Emmy in 2002. Really weird seeing Corinne in real life as Sean Ryan's wife.

He was terrifying, and part of a non-stop parade of at the time incredible as well as future incredible guest stars.

I think the most amazing of all is that Forrest Whitaker was on the show in 2006 and 2007, the year he was in Last King of Scotland, which he won the Oscar for best actor for.

Forrest Whitaker Was so good in this role. I still hate him to this day bc of this role.

Also goes to show how good the show is. He's out here trying to do the right thing and I hate him for trying to take down Vic and his crew.

I read this on the show WIkipedia while trying to remember some details about him.

Shawn Ryan conceived the idea of a "pretty virtuous Internal Affairs detective," who would become "hell-bent on bringing [Mackey] to justice." Whilst writing the series five script, Ryan was convinced that he was "making it tough for the audience. They're not going to be sure who to root for." But discovered the audience overwhelmingly supported Vic; "our audience viewed Vic as the hero. They wanted Vic to get away with it. They found every negative thing to say about Whitaker's character they could think of."[5]
