Probably more than two. Those were eggs Lucy was playing with. They're in a nest.

I've not watched the preview for next episode because I like to go in fresh.

However, I don't think I've ever seen a Deathclaw egg in the fallout games I've played. However, there are other creatures that do lay lots of eggs.

I thought we may actually see those, as well.

They're pretty ubiquitous on fallout new Vegas. The lasy by the quarry has a death claw omelette recipe too. I can't decide if I'm cool or lame knowing that without looking it up

They are pretty common in FO:76, if you know where to look, as well.

Nothing that wasn't in the original season 2 previews that already came out

I didn't watch any of that either. I just download the episodes and watch them offshore but I feel like it was probably already mentioned in the conversation. I never played any of the games so this is all new to me.

Yeah I think it's been mentioned. You're not going to ruin anything.

It's literally been over 15 years since I played FO:NV. Must be that game, then. I don't remember them in FO4.

There's at least one in Fallout 4. People stole an egg and get torn up; you can take the egg back to the nest, I think.

GAME SPOILER

You can. That museum encounter where you get the egg is legit a horror game at that point. But yeah, if you return the egg to the nest, mama deathclaw shows up with no aggro against you. Maybe not friendly per se, but also not eating your face. Which is friendly enough for me! You also get a deathclaw gauntlet out of it. FO4 REALLY clamped down on the moralistic choices and their impacts IMO compared to the others but this was a cool example of it done well albeit not super impactful game world wise.

Are we speculating on this thread as well? And just theorycrafting in general?

Yes we are, though the gamers are spoiler tagging anything from the games that hasn't been explicitly shown in the show. We have been giving context for others where it seems warranted.

I would shy away from speculations on characters that have been in the games, though. For example, I'm not going to throw out too many personal theories on Mr. House. However, I think that's really the only character we have ever met in the games that we've seen in the show. I think we heard the name, Elder Maxson, who is the leader of the Commonwealth BoS, but we don't know which story path from FO4 the showrunners decided is canon for this world.

Ok so this show only loosely follows the game? Essentially a new story in the fallout game universe?

Gotcha. Well, something has been tickling my brain since I saw it. Might be a bit esoteric for this crowd though since it deals with deep lore.

Possible upcoming plot point you would not know if not conversant in the games:

Steph's Canadian ID reveal. My mind is spinning with that. It's no game spoiler but general background story from Fallout 1 and 2. Canada was annexed by the US post Chinese invasion and a decent chunk of Canada did NOT go quietly and there was a very active resistance movement all the way up till when the bombs dropped. Fallout 1 is actually infamous for having footage of soldiers in power armor executing a Canadian resistance fighter in the opening intro. All Canadian residents were given "temporary " occupation residency IDs as seen in the show.

Now, there is no way that was just inserted into the show with no plan behind it IMO. The thing is though, that there is no real follow up with Canada in the lore past the bombs dropping that I am aware of. What I typed here is pretty much it.

So why is a Canadian accepted into the Vault tec management program? They were not to be trusted I would think? Maybe something to do with Hanks mystery box?

It takes place decades after the recent games and 100+ years after the first game.

So there may be passing references, a gamer better knows some of the locations and factions and will find a lot of joy in how it builds on the game world they know, but I can think of few ways the games can spoil what's happening in the show.

I'd be careful with that kind of information. I actually never played the original Fallout games so had no idea that was a story element of that territory, so that could be looked at as a spoiler for some.

It would be like sharing information on the actions and conversations with Mr. House from Fallout New Vegas or if some of us gamers were to have theorized Cryo-freeze as a plot point before the big reveal in Season 1. No one who hasn't played the games would have simply guessed cryo-freeze was even in this world until it was revealed.

Just my two cents, but I'm just a participant in the thread and not the OP.

Aye. That's why I wasn't sure if we were doing spoilers or what even counts as spoilers. I haven't done one of these threads with existing plot material outside of show writers, so wasn't sure if something that is not a secret in the games would be considered spoilerish for the show per se. I'll just treat it as such I guess.
Lathspell

That's what most of us have been trying to do. I figure, if I see spoiler tags, it's something from the games.

This is probably the reason these threads don't have more traffic. I don't say much because it's a PITA to think about what might be a spoiler or not.

Not knocking what you said, just pointing out for someone mentioning lack of posts earlier.

Actually thinking back on it, my last post wouldn't be a spoiler IMO. It would be explanation of a possible plot point coming up. The scene highlighted something that most would not understand the significance unless you know some background lore. But that would be the only reason I can think of for the show to even have that scene. And that background lore is not secret. No more than the origin of the deathclaw discussion earlier. It's just known background story.

This is confusing for sure. I don't want to ruin anything and I do respect the code of spoilers but yeah, this kills any real discussion on conjecture and theorycrafting. Which is the fun of it all to me.

I'll just say this. The scene in question is the reveal of Steph's ID. She is Canadian. Which doesn't mean anything to someone not familiar with Fallout. I explain above why I think it may be something the writers decided to put in. Nothing concrete though. Hell, all I have is questions myself. But it explains the significance of that scene. If y'all wanna know a little bit more about that scene it's in that spoiler tag of my earlier post.

I am woundering if they are planning on digging into the Canada stuff more. I have looked into the lore if things like all the vault experiments but not a lot into the pre-bomb history.

I'm up trying to secure Olympic tickets for '28, so I decided to knock out episode five super early and, IMO, it's one of the best of the series. I've never played the games, but I have a feeling the gamers are gonna eat this one up, at least when it comes to the lore. It's also surprisingly emotional, has a great use of flashbacks, is incredibly directed, and just really well executed overall. Granted, all things considered, it's a relatively simple episode, but a very effective one at that.

I don't think that is spoilery at all and I appreciate the background info. Not knowing about the universe, it helps when y'all talk about it.

Personally, I don't think explaining the fallout world is necessarily spoilers, especially because this is a new story in the fallout universe.

Deathclaw was really well done, IMO - helped capture the perception of invincibility and dread these monsters cause you as a player in the games, especially early on. Coming across one was basically certain death unless you haul ass.

Prediction based on the cookie crumbs the show has given us so far:

We've been told by Victor that House is gone - so let's accept he's dead.
House said he was buying cold fusion to keep himself permanently alive in robotic, non-biological form.
Maximus has cold fusion in his pocket.

Safe to say, Maximus will bring cold fusion to Vegas, someone will plug it into Lucky 38 to activate "robo House" *likely* to solicit his support against their enemies?

Just finished episode 5.

I think Steph's Canadian ID might have something to do with whoever Hank was trying to contact. IIRC he went to an international line. Also, Hank's briefcase and being in Vegas probably ties into that. Who was he going off to meet at the casino?

House alludes to an unknown player at the table and thinks it is related to the deathclaws. He also doesn't think Vaultec will drop the bombs, so maybe they didn't. I have to think it may be whoever Hank was really working for.

I'm going to go out on a long limb and say it is Senator Welch or someone in The Enclave working for Welch.

Welch is presented as an unassuming idealist that no one listens to our takes seriously. Perfect cover.

The only times we've seen Welch have been around Coop, and according to House, Coop has some kind of roll in the bombs being dropped. The second time we see her is in Vegas at the casino. We assume she was there trying to get into the meeting, but that could've been a cover for meeting someone else. Could it be the same person Hank was going off to meet? In the mysterious message, he alludes to being in Vegas, which was that person's old stomping grounds.

Somehow, The Enclave got ahold of Vaultec's cold fusion device. Did Hank get it for them? Does Coop steal it and give it to Welch thinking he was doing something good?

I also had issues waiting for all the episodes to drop so I could binge them... So, here I am.

I thought season one was OK. It was a ton of good fan service for those who played the games. Story was just OK.

Season two has nailed the fan service in the same way and in a whole different way. Specifically, and as others mentioned, they added a lot of the really hard moral decisions the game likes to put the player in and the "game-like" decisions that have to be made between two hard choices (although, to be fair, most of the time there is a third choice that is a good middle ground).

Not only that, the story in season 2 is just a whole lot better (for basically every character).

Really, really enjoying it so far.

Also, I have an extremely hard time finding any desire to watch shows with commercials.

The only reason I watch fallout is because I played 3, 4 and new Vegas and loved the games. Otherwise, I wouldn't be watching, specifically because of commercials.

I think a lot of people feel similarly. We are already paying for the damn service, stop trying to further nickel and dime me, *******s.

Download the Brave browser and watch Prime on it, you won't get any ads at all.

I use Brave for all my streaming and it works like a champ. I sure hope they don't shut Brave down because I don't think I could go back to streaming shows with ads.

You're not willing to pay $2.99/month for the two-month duration of the show to not watch commercials? Also, every major streamer does this now, and Amazon's up-charge is by far the cheapest (especially considering all the other benefits you get with a standard Prime membership). The streamers finally realized that TV doesn't work without ad revenue. It literally can't exist on subscriptions alone. Not only that, but they make more money off their ad-tier subscribers than they do their premium subscribers. So in some instances they're actively trying to price out premium subscribers, hoping the cost is simply too much, they'll relent, and just drop to the ad tier.

It's called a power fist!

She nicked it from the little shop.

Speaking of the little shop, I absolutely loved that entire interaction. That was such a Fallout thing to come across. Needing something, thinking of stealing it, then uncovering a little side quest. After she kills him, she just goes about her business like nothing has happened, other than picking up some epic lootz!
