Anyone get a chance to see this in the limited theatrical release? Comes out on Thursday on Netflix. The Drinker just released a video talking it up and confirming it's a good adaptation from the source material without pushing in woke messaging. So happy to hear that because I love the gothic horror aesthetic and was very interested with Oscar Isaac in the role as Dr. Frankenstein.

Didn't see a thread about the movie yet, so thought I would start one. I'll probably be watching this on Halloween.

I too am encouraged to see highly talented Oscar Isaac representing the BIPOC acting community in a role that has been traditionally reserved for European males. Fitting in that Isaac has made great strides in breaking stereotypes of Latino characters in Hollywood. Was hopeful that the monster would be depicted as gender fluid or at least non-binary but remain happy for this achievement.

Is this post implying that lathspell has a certain "red" sock on this board? Because there's only one poster I know who posts like that. Or are you simply poking at lathspell for bringing up the woke aspect?

In the book Frankenstein was Italian-born Swiss and written by a woman.

That's his actual name? Would never have guessed, but not sure if I've seen him in anything but Star Wars.

Such a great movie and extremely poignant, for where we are in 2025. Everyone should see this movie. I wish there was a version that removed all the gratuitous nudity because I know many who won't watch a movie that has that much nudity, but it's just so good.

He's a really good actor whose talents were wasted on Star Wars.

But he delivered the most iconic line in the Skywalker saga

Don't sleep on Inside Llewyn Davis, either.

I'll probably end up watching this but I'm massively turned off by Mia Goth as an actress. Her presence in any film is off putting for me and I can't say why.

Do you know what the movie is about? If not, it could be fairly spoilery to tell you why. Suffice it to say, it has something to do with AI.

A lot of overlap between the two. Highly recommend watching one and reading the other.
Spoilers for both:
A genius plays god and makes an new invention that no one else can that ultimately ends up killing the creator. The genius works a lone with a sole companion and dedicates himself to his work. A creation looking for meaning from the creator, and not getting it.

Now that you say it like that, I get it, and see the similarities. I have not read Frankenstein and only know the high points. The most I've spent with that world is from watching The Monster Squad

The book is very good, and not that long. Most movie adaptations are not very close to the book. This one seems to be faithful and I'm looking forward to it.

If I'm being honest, and it's a bit tacky, but her lack of eyebrows and her tone of voice are huge factors. But yeah, half Canadian doesn't help her cause with me.

My post was in response to someone posting about Ex Machina.

I started the thread hoping there were some who have seen the theatrical release, but I guess not.

I will be watching this on Halloween!

A decade plus of Shia infusions over two stretches doesn't help.

Getting her break in von Trier's Nymphomaniac (Volume 1) is kind of funny and her penchant for horror flicks is fun.

Latino/Hispanic is not a race.

I check Caucasian (White) for race on all legal documents. I check Latino for ethnicity.

South America is filled with people of European descent who don't look like what most people in this country consider "Hispanic" because they have only seen Mexicans who are fully mixed with the indigenous population.
