Overall, I like the episode.

It has the Derry aesthetic. The creature design so far is on point. This round of "Losers" is easy to root for.

I am excited to see where this season goes.

I think this has already been better than IT pt 2. Some very WTF moments. I didn't watch any of the promos so that ending was shocking.

The HBO series is set in 1962. So, it is before the latest movie (Part 1) which was 1988-89.

The car scene felt so incredibly insane Stephen King, even though I don't know that he actually wrote the scene. So off the wall crazy and WTF?!

The theater scene....did NOT see that coming so soon in the show.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting them to show the full detail of how the creature arrived, and I was definitely surprised by the ending. I enjoyed it, and await next week's episode.

is there any source material for this season? Or is this taking the setting and methology of Derry and "It" and making a new storyline? A prequel?

A bunch of kids needs to die in this thing for me to even be remotely interested….

Good grief that was weird to type but this "threatening clown" hardly does anything to the kids in the movies because they all make it….

Agreed. Definitely did not see that coming.

The guy driving the jeep on the air base who kept looking around will go on to be the head chef at the Overlook Hotel.

That's what I meant by the ending being shocking because I didn't watch the promos.

Yeah the more I think about it and what history we know about Derry. There is always some giant tragedy that happens to the town asnd it envolves death. I bet the dad, theater shop owner will get the blame for it and racial tensions will raise in the streets. The adults turn a blind eye and IT starts its run on the town.

All I know is I'm glad we don't have to watch a whole season of a teenager sucking on a pacifier.

That was about what I expected. Freakish at times, creepy at times. But did not expect any deaths among what appeared to be major characters.

Admittedly I don't really understand much about IT and the origin of it, so I watched the first episode a blank canvas. I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I like the references to King's work you see as easter eggs in some of these films (and read in the books), but as a King fan many of the connections have become forced and tired. Patrick Danville and Insomnia/DT pretty much jumped that shark IMO.

The stranger things creators sold their idea to netflix as the series being Stephen king-esque.

Enjoyed E2 a lot more than E1. I guess it's a good thing that the kid actors I really didn't care for got offed quickly.

The two lead female child actresses are both great.

Grocery store scene I think really nailed the feeling the different events produced in the original novel.

And the air force connection may feel Stranger Things esque, but King did it long prior with The Mist (and I'm sure that was somewhat derivative of something else).

So I'm halfway through episode 2 and just feeling like "been there, done that". Just feels like too much of an ode to King. If you're a diehard King fan then you're probably loving it, but as just a casual fan its all just tired King tropes.

I fell asleep during ep 2. Not a great sign .
