Really great movie.

Granted, it's from director Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things, The Favourite, The Lobster), meaning it's also quirky, absurdist, unsettling, not for everyone, etc, but I would say it's easily his most accessible effort to date. Despite being weird and even a little gross at times, you can't help but get sucked in by the plot, and then once you do you're caught in a constant guessing game as to how it's going to end and whether Stone's character is an alien or not. It's just a really engaging, darkly fun couple of hours.

It's also circling a potential Best Picture nomination, while Stone and Plemons could and should be nominated for Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively.

Anyway, if you're into this sort of thing, definitely give it a shot. With a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes it's absolutely worth it.

So Emma Stone just doesn't want to make movies for normal people anymore?

Enjoyed Poor Things, what I'm hearing about this one makes me want to give it a go as well.

I will and have watched all of Yorgos movies. They are not my favorite, but they are very unique and you can't deny his film making style and ability.
But good to hear that this is getting better reviews and seems to be a more entertaining movie than Kind of Kindness.

For what it's worth...

- I didn't see Kinds of Kindness, based on the bad reviews.
- I thought Poor Things was great, but also super weird/uncomfortable (and I'll never watch it again)
- I absolutely loved The Favourite, easily the best of the bunch for me.
- I never saw The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
- I thought The Lobster was okay/funny-ish, if not a bit too quirky/depressing.

All of that said, again, Bugonia is easily Lanthimos' most accessible/straightforward film to date, and is the first one that feels like it's mostly set in our modern world. The Favourite is still my... favorite... but Bugonia is now a close second for sure.

Also, just FYI, it's going wide this week theatrically, so everyone should be able to see it starting Thursday night.

I forgot about the Deer movie. It's the only one I've seen of those bunch.

Is Poor Things in the same vein of Requiem For a Dream in being good albeit unsettling?

No, not at all. Poor Things is WAY more quirky, a completely different tone, etc. When I said "uncomfortable" I mainly meant the basic premise, and how weird it is, but not anything like the drug use in Requiem for a Dream. I wouldn't compare the two movies in any way.

I'm uncomfortable with how this flick encouragesillegal alien genocide of humanity.

It's worse than OBAA in empowering the wrong sort.

For those interested, as of today this is now in theaters nation-wide.

I just watched this movie, and I'll say it's not really what I call "entertaining" but Plemons gives a Kenneth Branagh in Hamlet level performance. Honestly I don't know when I've seen better acting in a movie. Emma Stone does a great job as well, but Plemmons steals the show. He's gotta be a shoe in for best actor

I would give it a 2/5 and say to see it in a theater just to appreciate Plemmons performance

Definitely agree this is the most accessible of his movies I've seen. Plemons was unreal.

Saw this over the weekend. Just not very good. Acting was good. Rest was sub par.

Killing of a Sacred Deer is a great movie. Well worth the time.

No way I am sitting through the movie but the premise is kind of interesting though definitely a ripoff of

Men In Black: Jesse Plemmons is the bug wearing an Edgar suit and Emma Stone is the Arquillian Royal Member

and (even moreso)

They Live: Jesse Plemmons is Nada with the special sunglasses and Emma Stone looks like her head fell in the cheesedip in 1957... FORMALDEHYDE FACE!!!
