Word of Reel is legit, btw, so this story likely has merit. Of course, Villeneuve will obviously have a huge say...

Indeed. Would that be a first? The first non-British Bond, at least?

No, George Lazenby is Australian

Clearly means they want to make Bond a criminal. Why else push for an Aussie?

Good to know, thanks. So there's precedent, at least. Elordi is probably the biggest realistic name mentioned yet, and a respected talent, so it wouldn't surprise me if he got it.

Pierce Brosnan is Irish. Ireland is part of the British Isles but not part of the UK or Great Brittain.

James Brolin was almost a Bond in the 80s.

Also interesting that he'd be rather young relative to past Bonds, I know Craig was in his late 30s and I'd assume Brosnan was similar.

And after a few minutes googling, my crack research indicates the following:

Connery - 32 in his first film, 41 in his last
Lazenby - 29
Moore - 45 and 57
Dalton - 41 and 43
Craig - 38 and 51

Also, from Jeff Sneider...

Last week, European betting sites began listing Callum Turner as the favorite to play James Bond, and as surprised as I was to hear it, it sounds like the bookies may have been onto something. I'm told that Turner is, in fact, director Denis Villeneuve's top choice to play 007 and things are, indeed leaning in that direction, though it's still early days, and casting has yet to officially begin, so no offers have been made yet. Personally, I don't think Turner has it, as he was a black hole of charisma in Apple's big-budget Masters of the Air series, though he does look like a classic movie star straight out of the '40s, so perhaps he has the right look that Villeneuve wants for the character.

I disagree with Jeff and think that Turner, with Villeneuve at the helm, could be an inspired choice. That said, if this is indeed an origin story, at 35 he might be a little too old? Then again, he has a boyish look, seeing as I thought he was younger, so who knows...

That could work in their favor...he looks just young enough to play the origin story but easy enough to age him up for the subsequent movies.

It may very well end up being a dark horse or an unknown, but at least in the press it certainly feels like it's coming down to Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi. Personally, I like Turner better for the role, but Elordi is younger and the bigger name. Especially considering his Oscar nomination today, Wuthering Heights looking to be a hit next month, and season three of Euphoria coming in April, his star is only going to continue to rise, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's the one who ends up getting it.

I've been thinking about him recently in the Bond role, especially after watching his latest movie Eternity. I'm not sure i'm sold on him as Bond.

*Caveat..I've never i read the books, only watched the movies.

I also just very recently finished rewatching every single Bond movie ever made. Doing so reinforced to me just how critical the actor is in determing how good the Bond movie is. The recent remakes really struck gold with Daniel Craig. He's the best fit since Connery, and in my opinion, he and Connery were the only complete "fits" for the role.

I know there's a lot of posters on here grew up with Moore, and they will want to roast me for this take - but Moore was completely wrong for Bond. Moore was too old, too non-physical (it clearly didn't come natural to him and he didn't have the physical swagger that Connery and Craig had), and even his accent was wrong. Moore is clearly "built" for poncy aristocrat roles, not a suave yet physical spy.

Dalton was simply just not handsome enough. If I have a take on Lazenby its that he probably falls into this category as well.

Brosnan was good enough...not great in the physical department but better than Moore and Dalton. But he was handsome and suave and nailed the spy role.

But Callum Turner? Naw, even if he pulls together the suave part, and the physical part, he's just not handsome enough. For one, his ears are too big. Even my wife said he's a 5 outta 10 and "not Bond".

Yep, sure do, lol, but are you gonna tell me that looks shouldn't factor into selecting an actor for James Bond? Come on, you know it does. And Hollywood knows it does.

And when women don't find the actor attractive you're in trouble. How else do you think you're going to lure them into a Bond movie?

This guy bed Vanessa Kirby and is currently engaged to Dua Lipa. Yeah, he must be a troll to women.

I remember when Craig was first announced and some didn't think he 'looked' the part for Bond either.

I personally just want an authentic, gritty, bond...not going back to a 'pretty boy' bond that was more of the brand post-Connery and prior to Craig.

I'm intrigued by Callum Turner. He's not 'big' enough to already have a brand someone associates him with, like Cavill or Hiddelston.

I'm sure there are layers to it, no doubt. I just don't think that deep when it comes to Bond and want more grit than say...this:

This came across my feed the other day and I was shocked how much Daniel Craig modified his overall appearance between this screening test and minute 1 of Casino Royale.

Interesting choice. I'm guessing they adjust his hair and either bulk him up or make him lean depending on the era he's going to be in.

Oh yeah, you look at pre-Bond Daniel Craig and its amazing how far a little bit of muscle and few years of maturity went towards making him a great Bond.

And in that regard, maybe Turner can do the same. I did also read where they are really looking towards the books for the style of Bond they want to portray. Turner does kind of have that old-school look about him. He certainly pulled it off in Eternity.

Don't know who Callum Turner is but will be kind of funny if they go back to back Bonds where the initial reaction to the casting will be "his ears are too big!"
