While I'd certainly participate, I feel like this thread is already the perfect place for people to ask questions regarding emergency medicine as it relates to The Pitt. However, if anyone disagrees and would prefer discussions about the actual medicine were done somewhere other than this thread, we could certainly make a separate thread.

Sounds good. Thanks for responding

I've got a general question. We had to take my son to the ER last year for pneumonia. After he was admitted, I swear at some point within a 2 hour period we had like 10 different doctors and nurses come in/out. How the hell do yall organize it all? Maybe it was a shift change or something but it was hard to figure out who was who. On the show they seem to bounce around too.

I'm far from a doctor, but I was pretty excited when I recognized the rhythm on the monitor during the practice code. I said "That's Torsades! He needs mag sulfate!" I just wish there had been someone else in the room to hear me.
watching this with my physician wife and she nailed that immediately and does this 10 times an episode. Her doctor friends all endorse it and recommend it for realism. So I'm rolling my eyes at all of that but I'm all in on the general drama and the characters - how is it that I find myself rooting hard for all of them? Such a good show. S1e13 meltdown episode is an all-timer I've watched 4 times now.

Maybe unpopular but I dont care to have this thread turn into a "well actually" by real doctors debunking what is realistic and what isnt.

this isnt a documentary.

I dont mean this to come off as rude.

If the docs on here want to give further explanation about things that happen in the show, or that posters ask about, I am down for that!

but on the last page theres a doctor talking about what is realistic and what isnt. This thread shouldnt have any of that IMO

I get what you are saying, but most of the medical people on here have been talking about how realistic it is.

I agree. there was just an instance on the last page and then talk of a Q&A. so seemed to be slipping from the intention of these threads.

I dont like to be told Santa isnt real while I am watching shows if I am enjoying myself

Same. My advice, don't read any of the Yellowstone/Taylor Sheridan threads

oh I gave up on that show after about 1.5 seasons when it became complete garbage TV lol.

at one point Casey roped a guy through a car window going like 30 mph and at that moment I was out

Speaking of the show's plot lines and not medical realism, why were Whitaker and Crash so awkward around Langdon in Ep 2? Just the fact that he went to rehab and everyone besides Mel and Dana are mad at him/not sure how to act around him? I wonder how long we will have to wait before we get the first interaction between him and Santos?

We absolutely need to see the outtakes from the priapism treatment scene.

What do you think the deal with Kwon is? Will she last through the day? I get the feeling they are setting her up for a major failure/mistake because she isn't paying attention or doesn't care

something is coming there because so far its been a little far fetched for me that she made it this far in that career with that attitude/demeanor

For a series that tries to come off as being as realistic as possible I welcome the added behind the scenes info of what is factual vs not. But I have a heavy dose of skepticism when it comes to Hollywood and them portraying what is realistic or not so maybe that's just me.

so do I but that kind of defeats the purpose of watching a show for entertainment.

especially now that we know that on the whole this thing is pretty accurate, I am not necessarily interested in hearing what is BS and what isnt, unless I ask for it.

I am not trying to police the thread I promise. I can just scroll past it if thats what the thread turns into.

just giving my $.02!

I work in EMS and the brother/sister hanging on to the Father was tough to watch. I work in an area with aging patient population have calls like that once a month. The medicine/treatment aspect is straight forward but managing the emotions of the family is challenging because they are usually under a great deal of stress.

But overall it is a good show that does show all sides of the patient and provider view points. Side note, going to the hospital by ambulance does not guarantee that you will be placed in a room. A lot of non-urgent cases go to the lobby. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk….

Has anyone ever stolen your ambulance?

Nope. We lock them so we do not end up on the news like HFD.

Just catching up on this show. I was doing clinical hours with HFD and our ambulance got shot. Don't miss emergency medicine.....that much.

That is crazy that the ambulance got shot. I love challenging patient care for the really sick. Once gave whole blood to a patient that was in peri arrest with a GCS of 3 that we could not get a BP or feel a carotid. After the blood, push dose epi the patient was awake and talking. I intensely dislike redundant paper work and holding the wall for a patient that should go the lobby,

Only issue with tonight's episode: chick with the GoPro would/should have been disallowed at the ambulance. Filming of patients upon entry violates HIPAA law all around. You can't film anything in an ER even if a patient has signed consent for just their treatment.

So after commenting waaay earlier in the thread I finally started watching last weekend and binged season 1 in like 3 or 4 days. Really compelling stuff, I loved ER back in the day and this is like that on steroids.

Also quickly caught up on this season, only complaint is that both new student doctors are annoying af. Which is likely intentional but still you just want to smack both of them.

Noah Wyle for having enough money and being a movie star should really consider getting some plastic surgery (even though I'm usually negative on it) on his nose.

That was a pretty gutting way to end the episode last night. I'm assuming there was nothing that could have been done to save Louie and that Robby was upset with Langdon bc he was covering Louie when he died?

Interesting to see a quick glimpse of Santos and Garcia seemed to have made amends and more from last year. I kind of wonder if they are working up to Santos leaving based on some of the frustrations that her character has shown this season.

Aww. Poor Louie.

I mean, he did it to himself, but what a reveal at the end. Heartbreaker.

Easily my favorite show on right now. Quickly climbing the ranks as a favorite series.

1. She tried being self righteous and catching another person hurting kids and that backfired (this was excellently foreshadowed with the nun having an STD in the eye for cleaning earlier in the same episode). This destroyed her ego, which ballooned in Season 1 for catching it.

2. Langdon is back, destroying her ego further when she reported him in Season 1.

3. She's mad at her roommate for being better.

4. She's behind on paperwork and doesn't like the new boss.

That's a lot for a days work. I'm hoping they give her a chance to turn it around.

Yes. Tough ending and reveal for lovable Louie.

What's up with the cancer patient? Why doesn't she want to be around her devoted husband?

Curious about this one as well. My wife thinks she's not actually sick, but I don't think that's the case.

Something has been off about that couple since they were introduced. I wonder if the husband is secretly abusive or purposely mismanaging her meds or something...they've made it a point to let us know what a wonderful husband he seems to be.

Also, figured Louie was a goner a few eps back with the amount of screen time he'd been getting. RIP.

I got the sense that she's feeling crazy guilty about him having to care for her (saying she's seen the light in his and the kids eyes slowly die) and now with a broken leg it'll be worse until she dies.

Edit - just looked it up and there is an active bill being legislated around physician-assisted dying in PA. My guess is she wants them to help her die so she isn't a burden, and we have to follow the ethical challenges since they can't currently do anything.
