They got a pilot order from HBO a few days ago. I was looking up status on I Think You Should Leave Season 4 and found this;

https://deadline.com/2024/04/the-chair-company-hbo-tim-robinson-zach-kanin-adam-mckay-1235873993/

They are currently doing a live run of ITYSL, so hopefully this will come out in spring of next year.

I really like the first episode, but I am more curious to see the discussion on what people who aren't familiar with Tim's prior work is to this show and how it is received (if they even choose to watch it at all, in the first place).

If you are a fan of I Think You Should Leave but were not quite sold on the charm of Friendship, check this show out.

There were almost endless allusions to ITSYL , but Tim is taking some of the same vibes of the show a little deeper and cant wait to see how it develops.

There were many, and I likely missed many, but the show setup itself is a Coffin Drop gag, the dinner scene, the mis-en-scene when he first walked into the mall was almost an identical angle to the Karl Havoc sketch, a nude egg caused some issues later in the episode the office set is the same set from Detroiters, and my favorite -- the shirt that he grabbed off of the guy who was fleeing at the end of the episode was most definitely Dan Flashes, so many patterns. it's nuts

I am in for the season based on the premiere, but I can see how people could think it's too far out there for them.

This show can just be 8 episodes of nothing but Tim Robinson freaking out and I'd still laugh my ass off.

The first episode was pretty wild, absurdly relatable somehow and funny.

I laugh out loud soo much with Tim R. Loved ITYSLN and Detroiters was great too. Friendship was in his wheelhouse, but I guess since it wasn't 100% his creation...it was probably my least favorite of his stuff.

If it keeps going the way of the first episode, this might be his best work. I laughed out loud several times.

I've only seen Friendship and I'm not sure if I thought it was good or not. But it was different than anything I've seen, so I was glad I watched it.

I liked the first episode, and it's so weird that I'll keep watching. Also laughed some. But I get the feeling that I'll like this show and keep watching because I'm intrigued but will never really love the show.

Guess I need to look into some of his other work.

Kafka, but funny, and updated to modern times.

I love Tim Robinson. Massive fan of both ITYSL and Detroiters. And I'm not sure if I liked friendship or not.

Guess I'm in the minority..
The plot was fine and interesting, but the main character's schtick just not funny or interesting. More just annoying and seemingly inappropriate for every scene he was in..
So good luck to those who enjoyed it, but I'm out.

Yea I liked (don't love) the first episode just bc it was so weird. But could see it getting old quickly.

I think the perfect barometer of whether you like his style of humor or not is the scene where Robinson is chasing the old man across the parking lot. The old man is clearly out-classed and somehow knows he should start unbuttoning his shirt before he gets caught. Robinson dramatically finger-tips the back of the shirt and it peels off in his hands. This utterly demoralizes Robinson and he stops pursuing as if any chance of catching him has evaporated. The old man stumbles onward at little more than a walking pace and Robinson looks on as if the old dude is Usain Bolt running away.

That's a long journey for one gag and I get it if you don't think that degree of slapstick inanity is worth it. I like it if it's just the right amount, and I think he's mostly threading the needle on it.

The scene didn't even bother me comparatively. It was much more how over the top and cringe everything he did was. Started with the first scene and never let up, nothing felt ironic on one end or realistic on the other. Just annoying .
But like I said, that episode is currently sitting at 8.2 on IMDB so I'm in the minority.

Loved it, but I love Tim Robinson. If he's this wheels-off after one episode though, it's going to get pretty hard to watch.

Good episode 2. Speeding on his way to the interview was great

Just wish episodes were longer

I've watched enough of his schtick to get bored and tired of it. I've seen this same show already from him.

I am new to his stuff, but I am quickly starting to feel the same way. This seems like another version of Friendship.

Still in. The guy that plays Mike Santini is great, what a find. Plus that bizarre restaurant.

I just started this show and I have never in my life heard of the main character. I don't know his work and I'm not sure if the show is funny or dramatic or both. Either way, as a person that has struggled their entire life with adhd, focus, AND spent an early career in a corporate environment …this show really resonates for me. Almost very scene I found myself saying "I feel ya' bro"…..fixating on things most would dismiss, endless frustration with corporate crap, inability to satisfy simple urges like wanting to speak to someone on the phone…man…it's got it all.

So I started watching I Think You Should Leave last night. Watched the first season. Definitely had some hits and misses but I thought it was overall pretty good for a sketch show. Some of the sketches were great, which is all you can ask for.

But he is the same character in pretty much everything, so I likely will get tired of his bit at some point. My friend sent me a trailer for another Netflix show (characters) and it seemed like it may also be the same bit (it was hard to tell).

Is Detroiters also a sketch show or is it a "normal" show?

Detroiters is a normal show. Well as normal as a Tim Robinson show can be. I loved Detroiters, but I can't really stand So You Think You Can Leave. Detroiters is like what-if Dumb and Dumber got turned into a tv show about 2 friends running a local ad agency. Its got just the right amount of Tim being over the top that its funny but it doesn't beat you over the head with it. Also Sam Richardson is fantastic on the show.

For those keeping score at home - that's 2 Yacht Rock songs in the first episodes.

E1 - George Benson 'Breezin'
E2 - Ambrosia 'How Much I Feel'

TR does a great job at giving us just enough drama and cringe to make it funny. The characters are absolutely obnoxious. Loved the Mensware store and him getting texts and emails to the "Club". Assuming his phone is going to continue getting blown up each episode from welcome texts and emails
