Were they purposely going for a Jimmy Savile vibe with that character? That's immediately who I thought of when he popped on screen.
Got no takers on my comment, so did a little digging and found this take. Very interesting to see where this goes...

I don't think anyone knew about him before this story came out from this movie. (In this country anyway.)

Just saw this. Im weirdly kinda going back n forth between liking it and thinking it was terrible. The ending absolutely seemed misfit with the rest of the film. I liked the premise of desperate kid looking for doctor to save his mom but it also kinda made no sense to me that people would choose to live in a place where zombies exist. I get it, you gotta suspend reality for the whole thing anyway.

Whether i liked it or not I think the movie coulda been better in a lot of ways.

You mean the doc choosing or the kid going on Jules Winfield-Cain in Kung Fu walkabout?

It was implied early in the film lotsa people chose to live on the mainland. Then ya the kid too at the end.

That was incredibly weird.

But also ****ing incredible.

Man, I did not expect to love this as much as I did, nor did I realize how much I missed that frenetic-but-oddly-inspiring, early-to-mid '00s, Danny Boyle energy.

The look, the vibe, and feel of this thing.

The soundtrack.

The lead kid.

All absolutely amazing.

More movies like this, please, with a unique vision, legit emotion, and something to say.

Hell yeah.
The kid was going toe to toe with Ralph Fiennes which is an incredible feat at his age. Least annoying child actor I have seen. It takes serious balls to anchor a horror film to a child lead.

The frenetic camera movement was a little jarring but loved the free frame panorama slide to the left and right during kill shots.

I was crying during the bone scene.

I personally loved the ending. Seeing the action figure at the beginning, it kind of makes sense when a child basically stopped growing up and their entertainment also just stopped.

I really liked this. I get that the ending bothers some people but it didn't take away from the film IMO. It was a unique sequel, not derivative at all IMO and this weekend Jurassic World released yet another wholly unoriginal sequel so 28 Years Later should be recognized for what it accomplished. The entire arc of Spike and his mom isn't anything I think I've seen before in a movie like this. I wasn't expecting a zombie apocalypse film to have so much heart. I heard someone in the theater sobbing and I understood, it was heartbreaking. Give me more of Boyle and Garland working together please, I'll be there.

I really enjoyed it.

The last scene definitely seemed out of place, buuuut they did mention earlier in the movie that there are odd people on the mainland. And they were right.

Ultra weird and absolutely awesome. Danny Boyle reached back into his Sunshine and Trainspotting bag for this one.

Ending was so bizarre. I loved it.

I watched this last night and freaking loved it. Pretty random but this movie made me think of these three other movies at various points throughout:

- Excalibur: the surreal nature of it.
- Attack on Titan: the "zombies" especially with the Alpha and the causeway scene. That was straight out of AoT for me even with the sound.
- A Clockwork Orange: the ending.

That ending wasn't all that WTF to me like it was to others. Remember that this is a cutoff, dystopian Lord of the Flies island. All kinds of weird societal and cultural **** is bound to arise out of this.

Finally saw it last night...pretty solid...and pretty depressing on a deeper level as a father. All daddy had to do was keep his D in his pants and not cheat on his wife with cancer and his boy doesn't prefer zombieland to him and the security of their base. Heart still breaks for dad when he rushes out of the compound though. That level of pain and regret would be unfathomable.

The ending was wacky as hell, but I almost viewed it as an extra scene, as if the real movie had already ended. That was the feel for me at least and it didn't take anything away from the film. It was fun and bizarre.

It was crazy that they slapped such small-to-avg appendages on the supposed "alphas" though. You would expect them to be well endowed. Oh well, didn't take away from the movie for me.

For whatever reason, I guess because of the change in director, I was also expecting a somewhat different tone or vibe for this one. But man, it looks to be a straight up, spot-on continuation - in tone/vibe/story, everything - of the last movie, which is still my number one for the year, so I couldn't be more pumped. Alex Garland wrote this one as well, and Boyle is still producing (not directing - instead, it's Nia DaCosta). That said, again, Boyle will be back to direct the third one, should it be greenlit based on how successful these two are...

Dude, that looks even more intense that 28 Years Later, which I loved. I'm in.

I forget, how many more of these movies are planned? I ask because I know a lot of people were divided on the ending of 28 Years Later. But if this trailer is any indication, I think once all of these movies come out they may just fit together perfectly like a jigsaw puzzle, creating not only something incredible but potentially the best zombie franchise of all time.

Just watched this on Netflix, not sure I want to watch it again but man was it great!

Yes. The last scene was weird. But after thinking about it it makes total sense to me since the last thing that guy ever saw before society went to hell was the teletubbies. At least explains that weird AF outfits.

Come to think of it, we're getting near freezing temperatures tonight, which is fairly rare here in Central Florida, so I wonder if they're not doing something related to that. Still kinda odd.

I'm curating, which most people seem to appreciate.

Yes, there are complaints from time to time about the hyperbole often found in the reactions themselves, but in all the years I've been doing this, no one has ever once complained about the "load" time of the tweets themselves. Especially with over-the-top descriptions like "insufferable."

You're literally the first.

Congratulations.

Which is why I genuinely wonder if it might be a phone issue or internet connecting thing on your end. I know that I, personally, have never once had a loading problem.

That said, if enough people want me to cut back, I have no problem doing so. But good lord, it's only one page of tweets. I'm sorry it was such a burden for you.

Please cut back. Maybe 5 reviewers your respect vs a bunch of sycophants would be plenty, but that is just my opinion.

We don't need 20 of the same review run through AI for paraphrasing....I doubt many of the "reviewers" have even seen the film and are just trying to make sweet twitter money etc.

Man, that rocked so hard.

I'm way more excited to see where things go from here, than I was after the previous movie. Multiple intriguing storylines going forward.

Loved the needle drops.

Also this was by far the goriest and jump scariest one yet.

Also, if I had a nickel for every time Jack O'Connell has played a psychotic, charismatic, and wildly entertaining cult leader leading a band of cronies, I'd have ten cents, but it's weird that it's happened twice.

How's that?

It was indeed awesome. Soundtrack was badass, and the visuals were amazing. Ralph Fiennes seemed like he was having the time of his life. As was Jack O'Connell but that just seems like his default setting.

After I saw it, I changed one of my buddy group chats to Jimmys

Just saw it. I mentioned in my post on '28 Years Later' that I was a bit disappointed. I liked this one a lot more. It had a better and more consistent tone, and it didn't have those gimmicky spinning iphone shots from the last film.

Jack O'Connell is the stand out, and Ralph Fiennes was great as always. The dialogue scene between the two of them was brilliant.

I don't want to go into spoilers, but as soon as they showed the setting for the final scene, I got really excited.
