Very enjoyable movie. There were a few choices they made I wish they hadn't, but a really good Mando and Baby Yoda adventure with highlight moments for both.

Don't spend hundreds of dollars (on top of park entry, lodging and transportation in the thousands) to build a sh-tty Disneysaber. This build is less than 20 bucks.

Saw it today in 3D D-Box. The visuals were great but some of the CGI monsters were poorly done. The story was pretty straightforward but felt like just a side quest for Mando and Grogu that didnt have any high stakes. I was looking at my phone during the 3rd act to see how much time was left. I would rate it a 6/10. Probably won't watch it again. Really no need to see it in theaters. Just wait for it on Disney+.

"The Protestant reformation in Star Wars" sounds… eh.

Agree with TC that Lindelof's story sounds like a retread of the sequel trilogy, which was unintentionally all about nostalgia vs revision.

I think highly of Lindelof because his Watchman season was amazing, but this Star Wars idea sounds meh. At this point, I don't think anything that builds off the sequel trilogy will get much excitement. Star Wars has put itself in a pickle by spending the past many years building TV content that reinforces the sequel trilogy and attempts to rationalize it and set it up.

Agreed that the CG characters weren't great looking

As a preface, to my M&G review, I've intentionally stayed off the Star Wars TexAgs thread a lot the last year or so as I try to find healthier uses for my time then endlessly arguing and defending the franchise against other people with perfectly valid rights to their own opinions.

Tonight has been something I've been looking forward to with one of my daughters through a very long, stressful, and often very lonely past 13 months. It was her first time at Opening Night of a Star Wars film and she's been counting down the days for at least the last eight months. Having read some of the speculation that it wasn't going to be good or do well at the box office, I went in to it with lowered expectations for myself and really just wanting to spend the time with my daughter, who has been obsessed with Grogu since the minute she saw him in 2019, and obsessed with Yoda since she was probably 3.

All that said, I really enjoyed it, and I'll keep my review brief.

1) Jon Favreau did an excellent job keeping the characters realistic and not turning Grogu into Deux A Machina at any point. I really wish he had continued shepherding the TV show. He could have greatly improved the third season and had people a lot more excited for this movie.

2) Ludwig Gorrasson's soundtrack really enhanced the viewing experience. He expanded a ton on both Mando and Grogu's themes and really put great vibes for the different planets. He should score as many SW movies going forward as he can.

3) There's a 6-8 minute sequence in the last 1/3rd of the film that is different from anything that Star Wars has ever done. Almost no dialogue, just Mando & Grogu, and really beautifully shot. Favorite part of the movie for my daughter and me.

That's it! Well, and some photos with Internet protection for obvious reasons..

I thought it was great. Very pleasantly surprised. Non-stop action that was done very well. SW TV show dialogue is often cheesy and a little clumsy but that wasn't the case with this movie at all. Not perfect but a really good addition to the SW universe.

Glad to see some positive reviews (i trust TexAgs more than critics). Taking the fam tomorrow night, haven't missed an opening since Empire (and I was 2, so not my fault).

Just back from seeing it with some Star Wars buddies tonight and I enjoyed the heck out of it. I smiled throughout the movie.

It didn't redefine the franchise. It didn't move galactic storylines forward.

But it was fun.

For me, the story boiled down to a dad and son adventure.

And agree with poster above that the portion of the movie with no dialogue was gorgeously shot and well done.

Last thing I'll say is… holy heck Grogu and them little hairy mechanics are the best dang combo for funny moments in the Star Wars universe.

The score is sick. How LG manages to sample all these different genres without it ceasing to feel like Star Wars music is impressive.

I'll follow that up with a tiny bit of self promo...

I design some tees on the side, don't want to dox myself but I have this available on Cotton Bureau for anyone who might be interested (also available in Boba Fett colorway). Feel free to DM or you can probably find it with a quick google.

One more note with spoilers

The first time they got to the base on the beach it certainly seemed like a certain blue and white astromech droid was being lifted out of a certain X-Wing

Soooooooooooo....getting word about numbers over in Europe for this thing.....ummmmmmm....

Some of the overseas numbers in europe are showing this is debuing UNDER the flash...UNDER solo...

in terms of admissions it did 83.5k...to compare....

devil wears prada 2 161k
brave new world 105k
shang-chi 99k
scream 7 94k
solo 89k
thunderbolts 81k
morbius 77k

granted...these are international numbers and only in several markets in europe so maybe this is just a sign of dwindling international appeal...but if these trends are any reflection of what we are about to see domestically....

I'll say this - we caught an 8:20pm showing on a Thursday night out in New Caney (right outside of Kingwood/Houston) and the theater was packed. And loads of families with kids.

We may be underestimating the baby yoda factor here over Memorial Day weekend. I also figure word of mouth might help this with families.

I think this weekend will be just ok....around 90 - 100 million domestic...hell it could be more and break ahead of box office predictions of 110 - 120 million but I dont expect that...

I'm thinking this thing though is going to have poor legs after fans like us have seen it....I don't think general audiences are going to care enough to keep this thing alive decently enough in theaters

Most reviews are clouded by having a night out, seeing a movie with family or friends. If they watched a movie alone, I bet they would have a clearer perspective

They put Pedro, Sigourney, Filoni, and Jon Favreau on the new version of the Milenium Falcon ride at Galaxy's Edge. I got a real laugh of seeing lifetime nerds Filoni and Favreau in the back seat trying to yell instructions at the talent on how to FLY THE DAMN SHIP RIGHT.

While I think everyone should go see it still, I personally did not think it was very good.
parts are good and aspects of it are good, but not the important parts.
Sure we will all discuss it more after this wekeend.

It has been a while since I have seen a movie at my local AMC. I learned that we are seeing TMAG in IMAX. I am guessing it's not true IMAX, though.

My youngest son enjoyed it. No shortage of action for sure but like a few have already shared here, it felt like a glorified episode of The Mandalorian. I enjoyed it but it didn't tie up any loose ends or answer any questions for me
No matter what!

We enjoyed it. The kids (teens) and I moreso because we knew Mando and Rebels. The bulk of the assessments here were accurate. The balcony with recliner seats was full, the lower regular seats were not. Fun, but didn't change the SW universe. We got Mando pins with our tickets (decent pins, actual Disney ones) which was cool.

A few of the visuals and scenes in the movie make me really wish we could actually get an X-Wing movie or series.

I know we're getting Starfighter next year, hopefully we see some X-Wings there.
