I mean... everyone who drives from College Station to Waco drives through it/by it. Not really "unknown" to a bunch of Aggies...

Speaking of small towns... The 6-man state championship is today.

Gordon beat Rankin this morning for D1

Jayton and Richland Springs start at 2pm for D2.

Drove by Fort Hancock today on I-10. They were a 6-man powerhouse back according to their water tank right off the freeway.

My grandpa's deer lease was just west of Indian Gap. Literally nothing there, but it was about 8 miles to the quaint metropolis of Priddy, Texas. At that time, Priddy had a feed store, a school, a church and a gas station/grocery (with a pay phone) that was a decent place for breakfast and lunch.

Been through Priddy bunches of times driving from Weatherford to visit my folks in Lakehills...

I don't recall Zephyr being mentioned, maybe I missed it. Your username reminded me.

Good call... the little towns of Zephyr, Gustine, Mullin and Shive were all right there as well.

Hamilton and Comanche were the "big towns" by the deer lease - ha!

(my Zephyr is the now-defunct college bar from the 80's/90's)

I used to run cows on my uncle's place in that area.

I grew up in Walburg. Not really a town though.

Spent a lot of time in Zabcikville, Ratibor, and Westphalia since my dad lives out there.

I had a deer lease for a while outside of Ballinger. Kind of in between Winters and Ballinger. I always loved the Winters mascot… Winters Blizzards.

Also had a private bass lake in Carbon. Awesome little place, actually. Great burger at the gas station.

Used to work for firm that did a lot of work in rural NE Texas. Spent a lot of time in Farmersville, Alba, Fruitvale, Rusk, Rowena, Blue Ridge, Leonard, Celeste. Honestly, an underrated part of Texas. Lots of good duck hunting up there.

I live in Oregon now, and miss some of these small towns. The Oregon small towns have all seem to have HUGE meth problems. The people in them were mostly all in the timber industry which has been declining due to some ****ty state politics.

My family has land (where I hunt) between Caradan and Mount Olive.

Smallest town with a post office? Energy

Smallest with a restaurant? Gustine & Blanket (sometimes, when they have enough staff to keep a restaurant open. Gustine is open again at the moment)

Priddy is still kicking. The little cafe there is good. When I have business friends in from across the country, I take them to breakfast in Priddy!

I used to hunt with a bunch of Aggies in Crystal Falls

I went to fish camp with a chick from Pancake. She thought her school was big because they had more kids than Oglesby.

And finally - my username. Gentry's Mill, TX! My family has owned land a couple miles south of there since the 1940's. My dad lives there now. I live in Early. The route to go see my dad? Zephyr, Priddy, Indian Gap, Energy!

How about Long Mott?

On the way into Seadrift you pass by it. My GF's best friend owns the winery there (although I think they're in the process of shutting it down).

Both the GF and her best friend are Ags...as was her best friend's dad, who owned a lot of the land around there...

Looked it up. Place seems rundown and almost abandoned.

My dad lived in Bangs for awhile growing up.

We went there one time while driving out in the area.

I am curious about people's jobs in small places. What did his dad/mom do for work? Pretty sure he could not "work from home" back then.

My grandpa was in the Army. I think there was some kind of depot there at the time. Probably would have been right after WWII…maybe 1946-1948 time frame.

Did he have any old ties with Bangs? If not, how did he choose that place to live? Or was he stationed there by the Army?

When you drove there, did Dad see his old house?

He had no ties there. The Army sent him there.

IIRC yes, we saw his old house.

Is the "Priddy stomp" still a thing?

That was a good time back in the old, old days.

It is not. It's the VFW hall. But they do have cornhole tournaments on sundays once a month
