TKO's Knockout Performance of the Week: Griffen, Sorrell & more

Richard Zane: Caden Sorrell & more standouts on the diamond

• Caden Sorrell went 7-for-14 in four games this week. He had a double, two home runs, eight RBIs, four walks and seven runs scored. On the year, he’s hitting .423. His OPS is over 1.000 at 1.415. That’s an insane OPS.
   
• There have been some great outfielders come through A&M in the last 10 years or so. Tyler Naquin was fantastic. Nick Banks had a really good collegiate career. Recently, Braden Montgomery and Jace LaViolette. Sorrell is having a Montgomery-type season in the early going. He will see some pitching that will make it hard to keep those numbers up. He is a true five-tool player.
   
• I want to give a shout-out to Gavin Grahovac. He has a 7-for-15 week. He is hitting .351 with 16 RBIs on the year. He is still not as hot as we have seen him be.
   
• Terrence Kiel III has been hot. He’s been great in that leadoff spot. We will see what the lineup construction could look like when he’s healthy. If he’s getting on base, he’s doing his job.

Olin Buchanan: Rylan Griffen

• How often do you see a guy score his career high? Not often. How often do you see him exceed it in the next game? Rylan Griffen goes for 21 and 24 in his last two games. Back-to-back career highs. Any mention for SEC Player of the Week? They forget about A&M.
   
• Griffen has eight steals in that span, three turnovers and 11 rebounds. He played good basketball. I wonder what A&M’s record is when Griffen is in double-double figures... He was huge in both of those games. They are 12-3 when he is in double figures.
   
• You asked about other A&M forwards, historically. When Sorrell is done, where does he rank among great A&M outfielders?
   
• Grahovac is another good player. When they get completely healthy, that’s going to be a nasty offense.
