Keep on moving up.
Great to see the scam job sips and Penn State out of the rankings.
Movin’ on up!
After imposing their will in the second half of a 31-9 win vs. Mississippi State, the Fightin’ Texas Aggies moved up one spot to No. 5 in the Week 7 edition of the Associated Press poll.
Additionally, Mike Elko & Co. are ranked No. 5 in the US LBM Coaches Poll.
This is the first time Texas A&M has appeared in the top five of the AP Poll since Week 1 of the 2021 campaign.
It is also the fourth consecutive week that A&M has been among the nation’s top 10 — No. 10 in Week 4, No. 9 in Week 5, No. 6 in Week 6 and now No. 5 in Week 7.
Leading narrowly at halftime, Texas A&M/the Aggies used suffocating defense and a seemingly unstoppable rushing attack to turn a 7-3 edge into a comfortable 22-point margin of victory.
Indeed, the Ags watched their lead grow to as many as 25 points before State scored on an incredible (albeit meaningly) 44-yard touchdown with just under eight minutes remaining.
For a second consecutive week, A&M’s defense allowed just one touchdown vs. an SEC opponent. For a second consecutive week, A&M’s ground game carried the offensive workload by rushing for 299 yards.
It is undeniable that the Aggies are beginning to be more and more consistent as they aim to remain in the SEC Championship and College Football Playoff discussions. As a result, they’re among the nine SEC teams ranked in the AP’s Week 7 poll along with No. 4 Ole Miss, No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 8 Alabama, No. 10 Georgia, No. 11 LSU, No. 12 Tennessee, No. 14 Missouri and No. 20 Vanderbilt.
Consistency will be key if A&M is to add to its resume next week as Florida (2-3, 1-1) comes to Kyle Field for a 6 p.m. CT kickoff on Oct. 11.
And in case you forgot, the Gators are fresh off an upset of formerly No. 9 (and now unranked) Texas.
