How is Texas tech in the finals and we can't even get close

I just think that type of scenario is not going to occur very often. Meaning, a stud pitcher that was just a fish or sophomore that took her team to the CWS, wants to leave her team.

The OU pitcher did when she left for Nebraska but that was for different reasons.

Yeah, Frohm wanted to go home and good for her.

I think Tech blew their chance to winning it all again. We shall see if there is a pitcher like Cadady again that leaves their school after being one of the best her first two years in school. Just don't think that scenario is going to happen that often.

I was also surprised by how their coach seemed to just melt after the error by the SS.

Yeah he was surprisingly expressive in the face of adversity.

We don't have any donors with that much money with that little business sense.

There is no ROI for a million dollar pitcher. You may win a championship, but you don't get a return.

Until the 12th man gifts points for donations illegally you won't get Buzbee, Beaver or Don Adams to start writing checks. The Tech guy seems to like the publicity and apparently has F me money where he doesn't miss it.

How are you defining ROI? He's not literally going to make his money back, but he's going to help his program reach a level they would never have dreamed of. His joy from that might be a favorable return in his eyes.

I don't know if ROI is the right term, but there are serval factors at play.

First, NIL money needs to be tax deductible in order for it to make any sense financially, and it's really hard to justify a $1 million NIL deal with a softball pitcher as a legitimate business advertising or sponsorship expense. Now, if you don't care about that, fine, but it does matter to most business people, and effectively makes your NIL money go farther when you can claim it as an expense.

Second, NIL money is not allowed to get you priority points credit (or whatever they call it at other schools), so you don't jump to the front of the donor line, for whatever that is worth to you, for writing a big NIL check.

Third, some people just prefer to write big checks for bricks and mortar; things that will last and might carry their name for years to come, rather than something completely ephemeral like a one year NIL deal, which may or may not lead to some hardware in the trophy case (and, in any event, which will not carry your name on it).

Fourth, if the main "ROI" you're looking for is a national championship how many times will you continue pouring money into it if you aren't getting that NC....

Maybe donors will get on board after watching Texas win championships?

Texas won two championships in women's tennis and volleyball in the last 5 years or so and A&M followed with championships in the sports. It would be weird if you didn't in softball as well.

Before they got Canady , Tech put the full court press on trying to get Kavan but she said no. She always wanted to be in Austin and Oesterman was her hero. The kid has morals to go along with talent.

And I'm sure she got a bump in NIL as well. That what happens. Stanford just could not pony up to keep their pitcher like Texas could.

No doubt she is doing well in the money department and will for her Senior year then head to AUSL.

As for Stanford not having the money to pay for Canady, well, they have plenty of cash but didn't want to spend it.

We haven't won a "big 3" in almost 90 years. I want one so badly it makes me sick. But I'm sorry. Even if I had Cody Campbell money I can't imagine spending the millions in NIL he has. There's ROI, there's personal fulfillment, and there's insanity

We just won a national championship in Women's Tennis (2 out of the last 3 years) and a national championship in Women's Volleyball. We were the number one overall seed last year for softball but couldn't get out of our own regional. We really aren't that far off of Texas in softball but we just can't get the pitching necessary to win softball championships.

We are good in women's sports and maybe we figure it out in softball but I don't think our athletic department is fumbling the ball in women's sports as a whole. We need to fix women's hoops, women's soccer finally made a great hire and softball needs to step up in NIL if they want to compete for championships because we do have a solid coach (elite? remains to be seen). We could focus money elsewhere... who knows. But we shouldn't complain every time we don't compete in a non-rev sport. We are doing just fine across the board.

Well, part of the reason is they have a easier conference to win in.
I don’t get enough credit for the things I manage not to say.
