I think the worst case scenario for us is…

Mid-double digit seed paired with long trip to one of the few teams built to win in Omaha.
2 seed with 40+ wins and very high RPI
3 seed who won't be intimidated by Olsen
4 seed whose best healthy starter is as good or better than our best healthy starter.

If so, I'd appreciate the committee throwing us some prophylactic before the selection show - instead of during the reveal. But I'll have my popcorn ready either way. The meltdown and everything around it would be on brand.

4-4 against those, if you take care of business elsewhere, is host worthy. Not Top 8 worthy most years.

Screams you're a good team, not a great one, and need to be executing at a high level in the postseason to make noise.

Agreed. Every metric shows that we are capable of being really good, but equally capable of having a turd of a weekend. That'll get you a host spot, but not a national seed.

Throw in our terrible non-conference strength of schedule and the egg we laid in Hoover, and our post-season resume is not among the elite.

Because those teams played a tougher non-conference slate and/or had a better conference tourney showing and/or didn't rely on Mizzou to prop up their SEC win total, etc.

Plus, we had no marquee non-conference wins. Best teams we beat out of the league were Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Lamar, and Texas State. Those teams are good, but certainly not great.

Some of them got swept by a crappy team. Also non conf does not affect conf standing. All non conf are generally weaker teams. And one sec team got swept by a non conf nobody.

If - and this is a big IF - the committee does their job properly, they'll look at a 50-something game body of work to seed the teams. We'll see if they do that or simply cherry pick the data points they want to use.

Last time I checked, we were pretty dang good about winning 2/3 over the course of the season which is what you need to win a regional. Wins dont need to be pretty if you can score 10 runs most games!

Plus best guess is we SHOULD be getting back our best pitcher which is the primary cause for our struggles down the stretch.

You need to win at least 3 games to win a regional. That will be the hard part. I believe we have to win three in a row, otherwise we'll be playing more games in the losers' bracket and we do not have the pitching for that.

If we make it out of the regional, then we'll have to win 2/3 in the super and I think we can do that against most teams with our offense.

Finished above in the standings? Perfectly reasonable. Not every SEC team plays the same schedule.

Won the head-to-head against? Unreasonable. The results are right there. And we won the head-to-head against Florida in Gainesville.

Yep, worst case scenario is a 4 with an ace and an offense with some pop. We want to be in the winner's bracket, and we want to pitch Sims game 2. This team is not constructed to climb out of the loser's bracket. Of course we can, it's just a much more difficult path for this roster. Hopefully our bats are bopping.

Only one that isn't straight by the metrics is Auburn. UNC has a little beef but Auburn's #1 SOS and record vs tourney teams is absurd.
