Yes, your point? Do you think Applin only thought he could do business in TX?

Are you a govt employee?

NIL is anything but a sound business decision. You're not actually paying for the marketing value of the player, you're simply paying the player to go to a certain school that you support. It's a way for wealthy donors to funnel money to players to play for their school, nothing more.

With that said, I'm pretty sure I know which school Beaver supports.

He doesn't donate to athletics, he knows it's a waste of money. He donates plenty on the academics side.

Is that still true? I feel like I've seen more visibility between Buccee's and A&M during sporting events.

Bucee needs to pony up to Texas A&M nil fund. He's becoming a billionaire because of the SEC.

Several big names you see on buildings don't do NIL. They said they had given enough.

It does help a little with marketing, I would assume. I would be more likely to check out a product an Aggie is repping. I tried the Sonic Smasher Burgers just because Marcel Reed and Reuben Owens were advertising them and they were actually pretty good lol

I'm guessing OP is specifically talking about donating to the NIL Fund or NIL Collective vs Advertising.

Those are not exactly the same thing.

His success has little to do with the SEC and more to do with a successful brand.

There are two flavors of NIL... And it's largely been lost as big money donors took it directly where everyone with a minimum of brain cell knew it would go. Then there is what NIL was intended, by pie in the sky day dreamers, to be used for.

Use of a players Name, Image, or Likeness... So "student athletes" can profit from autographs, video and photo appearances, and likeness (video games). This is where sound minded businessmen/women can have athletes appear in commercials, print advertisement, and in person events at a retail location. Pay the athlete and attract customers. This is basic marketing.

Then the athletic departments created collectives... Where people with more money than sense anonymously throw money into a "probably not really a charity" where tax deductibility may or may not be appropriate to lure unlicensed free agents on one year deals subject to annual renegotiation.

Buccees doesn't really advertise at all outside of Billboards and brand recognition (probably why they so aggressively go after other signage). They don't do TV deals, I haven't ever heard a radio ad, and haven't seen them in print. So traditional NIL partnerships do not fit their mold. Plus operating across multiple school home turfs would be dubious.

Again, donating to the collective is anonymous so there is zero marketing benefit.
